SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression "VERBENA" was estimated based on all available data at 345 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte (9.5°N, 128.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h. It is moving Westward at 30 km/h. Shear Line affecting the eastern section of Luzon. Northeast Monsoon affecting the rest of Northern and Central Luzon.

🚨 DISINFORMATION ALERT 🚨

Representative Kiko Barzaga is once again spreading false and misleading claims, including an alleged “personal allowance increase” for the AFP Chief of Staff and supposed ₱15B “ghost projects.”

These FALSE narratives are not new. They have been maliciously resurfaced to sow distrust and drag the AFP into the current political issues.

The video being circulated is from 2024 and shows the long-overdue increase in the subsistence allowance for ALL AFP personnel, an initiative that began in December 2023.

Claims of “₱15B ghost projects” are also entirely false.
Under the TIKAS Program, all funds go directly to the DPWH, which manages planning, bidding, construction, inspection, and turnover. The AFP does not receive or disburse these funds.

The AFP remains professional, disciplined, and non-partisan.
We urge the public to stay vigilant and discerning against attempts to mislead and divide.

WATCH | International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) president Morinari Watanabe and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman John Patrick “Pato” Gregorio expressed pride and joy over Karl Jahrel Eldrew Yulo’s bronze-medal finish in the men’s floor exercise at the .

Gregorio said Yulo’s breakthrough performance is a clear sign of what’s ahead for Philippine gymnastics.

“He is very young in this world championship. He is up against the best in the world,” Gregorio said, emphasizing how a 17-year-old Filipino gymnast stood shoulder-to-shoulder with junior elite competitors from powerhouse nations.

“Now you can just imagine—2025, 2026, 2027—until we reach that 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.” he added.

Gregorio believes Yulo’s podium finish is more than a moment of triumph - it is an inspiring benchmark for Filipino youth and proof that long-term investment in grassroots sports can deliver world-class results.

The PSC chairman also took time to recognize Watanabe for his unwavering support of Philippine gymnastics.

“A very special thanks to FIG president Watanabe. He’s been very supportive; his leadership has been very encouraging and inspiring,” Gregorio said.

The PSC chief shared how Watanabe first recognized the potential of a then-12-year-old Carlos Yulo long before the Filipino gymnast rose to global prominence with his double-gold feat at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“Nine years ago, zero — now top 10 in the world. If we can develop our grassroots program because of the hosting here… Look at all the beautiful world-class equipment. We will put that in our training facility,” he said. “So what do we do with the existing training equipment? We bring that to Visayas and Mindanao.”

“President said we do a pyramid, we do our grassroots program and get the best for Los Angeles and then Brisbane,” he added, referring to the 2028 and 2032 Olympics
Watanabe, for his part, reaffirmed FIG’s confidence in the Philippines’ growing gymnastics program.

“We want 100 Carlos in the Philippines,” Watanabe said, highlighting his belief that talent can flourish anywhere as long as opportunity, support, and proper development are in place.
Gregorio echoed this optimism and said the rise of another young Yulo is proof of the Philippines’ ever-developing potential in the sport.

“And maybe another 100 Eldrew. We are very happy. I want to thank FIG, especially President Watanabe, for giving us this opportunity,” said Gregorio.

From 15th place in the qualifications, the Philippines’ last man standing Karl Eldrew Yulo finished eighth overall in the men’s all-around final of the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastic Junior World Championship.

Yulo vowed to give his all when he vies again for a medal in his pet event floor exercise on Sunday, and two more final events on Monday - the vault and horizontal bar.

Yulo, who is in his final stint as a junior gymnast in this world showpiece, also allayed concerns after he was seen limping after his floor routine.

He admitted to first feeling some pain in his right ankle after his triple twist in the vault event, but remained confident that he can deliver for flag and country.

“May kirot, pero Pilipino tayo, kaya dapat ilaban. Pipilitin po natin, kayang kaya naman ito."
