A piece that questions and blames the broken system.

It begins within a flood, both literally and metaphorically. Roads have turned to rivers due to the unrelenting rain, a mother and child wade through the waters, the people are in risk and pay the most for the decisions of the โ€œprogress deliveredโ€ claim.

As the piece continues, the focus is narrowed down to the normalization of corruption yet nothing and no one is accountable. None. A mere traffic stop becomes the epitome of the unequal law enforcement, selective application of the rules, and justice for an envelope and a nod. No outrage erupted. There was silence, a disturbing silence cushion, a sense of learned tolerance for the unacceptable.

From the end, the title becomes evident. The rot is not just a few bad acts. It is at the roots. The system is like a bad tree that added a fruit for everything it touches. It is a system that continues to operate while insidiously poisoning everything.
