With smiles and hearts full of excitement and faith, the parishioners of San Alfonso Maria de Liguori Parish of Mandug manifested a momentous day on August 1, 2025.

THIS is the ideal condition for us to be in. Given the way we are, as willed by God himself, our Creator and Father, we need to be always with him all the time even as we go through our earthly and temporal affairs. To acquire the art and skill for this is definitely a very important, if not an indispensable, requirement of our life....

β€œBlessed be You, O God, for having created me.”

Born into nobility, Clare of Assisi (1194–1253) renounced wealth and comfort after hearing the preaching of Saint Francis. In an act of radical devotion, she embraced a life of poverty, prayer, and service, founding the Order of Poor Ladiesβ€”later known as the Poor Clares.

As their first abbess, she led her sisters with courage and humility, writing the first monastic rule authored by a woman. Her life was marked by deep Eucharistic reverence, bold defense of her community, and miracles born from unwavering faith. Clare was canonized just two years after her death, and in 1958 was named the patroness of television for a vision she received of Midnight Mass while bedridden.

Saint Clare, teach us to let go of what hinders us from choosing Christ alone.

Mt. 17:22-23: While Jesus was in Galilee with the Twelve, he said to them, β€œThe Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. But he will rise on the third day.”

Reflection: The fire of the Spirit is given in the form of tongues and leads us to believe in Jesus Christ who, by his death and resurrection, reveals and communicates to us the Father’s infinite mercy. On the lips of the catechist the first proclamation must ring out over and over: β€œJesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.”

Pray: Lord Jesus, you gave your life for me. Thank you for your constant love and mercy. Amen.

Act: Tell the world of God’s love.

β€œThe poor are the true treasures of the Church.”

Saint Lawrence (225–258), deacon of Rome, was martyred during Emperor Valerian’s persecution. Entrusted with the Church’s goods, he used them to serve the poor and vulnerable. When ordered to surrender the Church’s treasures, he presented the poor, declaring them its greatest wealth.
Condemned for this bold act of faith, Lawrence was executedβ€”tradition holds he was burned on a gridiron, a symbol he now bears in sacred art. His courage, charity, and joyful martyrdom made him one of the most venerated saints of the early Church.

Saint Lawrence, teach us to love Christ in the poor and to serve with joyful sacrifice.

Amen.

Buhata: Pagmakanunayon sa pagpuyo sa imong pagtoo.

ONCE again, we are reminded of this need for vigilance in that gospel episode where Christ reminded his disciples to be like the servants who β€œawait their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.” (Mt 12,36) He prefaced this instruction by saying that they sell their belongings and give alms, and to provide money bags that do not wear out, β€œan inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.” (cfr....
