The City Agriculturist Office (CAgrO) continues to conduct training on sustainable nursery establishments and grafting in its bid to help farmers produce quality seedlings and increasing production while cutting on costs.

Rommel Loquias, CAgrO Agricultural Technologist, said they conduct training on sustainable nursery production and grafting.

"Importante nga mahibal-an nato kung paunsa ma-increase ang production sa durian and cacao magstart gyud na sya sa seedlings. (It is important to know how to increase the production of durian and cacao, and it starts with the seedlings)," he said.

Loquias said that to cut production costs in nurseries, they encourage recycling water through the establishment of rainwater catchment facilities and to use recycled plastic bags instead of buying polybags.

"Importante maabtan og six months [ang plastic bag] na dili malata. Ang sustainanble na nursery mulahutay kung makatipid ka (It is important that the plastic bag lasts for six months without deteriorating. A sustainable nursery will endure if you are able to save on costs)โ€ Loquias added.

The equally challenging part of nurturing seedlings is the grafting, which may cost farmers. To empower them to use the right process and styles of grafting, their office, through the district offices, also provide training on grafting.

"I-train namo sila unsaon pag sumpay kay kung paliton pana nimo ang seedling sa durian karon naa na sa sobra 50 ang iyang presyuhan naa sa 70 kapin. Kung naa na sila mapunit na liso iluyong nila gamit ang pinunit na cellophane after six months pwede na nila sumpayon, tun-an nila ang unsa ang daghan na style sa pagsumpay, pwede sila magpa-assist sa technician assigned para sa ilahang barangay (We train them on how to graft because if you buy a durian seedling now, it already costs more than Php50, even reaching over Php70. If they already have seeds, they can plant them using recycled cellophane, and after six months, they can already do the grafting. They can learn about the different grafting methods, and they may seek assistance from the technician assigned in their barangays)," he said.

He said that they teach farmers these methods to empower them to be self-sustaining and not to rely on other agencies, which usually entail additional costs on transportation.

"Amoang gitabangan pag ayo sa opisina kanang maka establish og nursery para sa barangay level at least para matabangan nato ang atong mag-uuma nga naa sa barangay nga dili na sila muadto og DA na layo and dili na pud sila magsalig sa DA or sa City Agri. Naga train ta sa farmers association, organization aron sila mismo ang muproduce sa seedling na ilang gusto didto sa ilahang areas (We help set establish nurseries in the barangay level, at least, so we can assist our farmers. This way, they no longer need to go to the DA offices that are far away, and they also do not have to rely solely on the DA or the City Agriculturist. We provide training to farmersโ€™ associations and organizations so they themselves can produce the seedlings they want in their own areas)," he said. CIO

The City Cooperative and Development Office (CCDO) said it has a new training module on business continuity management recovery plans for coops.

Miraflor A. Trocio, CCDO Information and Education Training Division Head, said over Davao City Disaster Radio on Thursday said that the training is among the 15 free specialized training offered by the office.

"Kani nga training ni giprotektahan ani unsaon nimo 'pag adunay kalamidad and adunay kakulian nga naapektuhan ang negosyo unsay imong buhaton para marecover or para maprotektahan ang financial capacity sa coop. Nindot ni sya nga module kay kini tudloan ang management ug mga opisyales unsaon pag protekta sa ilang financial labi na diha sa pagpadagan sa coop (This training focuses on protecting the cooperative by teaching then what to do in times of calamities and other challenges that affect the businessโ€”specifically, how to recover or protect the cooperativeโ€™s financial capacity. It is a good module because it teaches the management and officers how to safeguard their finances, especially in running the cooperative)," she said.

The training output is a plan for the coop on what to do during calamities, which form part of their annual and long term development plans.

She said that remaining 14 other specialized trainings offer focus on other important technical knowledge that the coop should have in order to be sustainable.

These include financial basic accounting for non-accountants, strategic planning, training on the proper procedures and many more.

Trocio invited cooperatives to visit their district offices to find out the training they offer for free.

"Kaning kinse libre nga specialized training mamili lang sila unsa ang ilang gusto pwede sila muduol sa amoa kay sa 11 ka administrative districts. Aduna mi officers as far as Paquibato Marilog, naay CDS didto nga mutabang sila (These fifteen free specialized trainings are open for them to choose fromโ€”whatever they prefer. They can approach us, we have officers in all 11 administrative districts. Even as far as Paquibato and Marilog, there are CDS officers there who will assist them)," she said, adding that the training can be conducted within the CCDO office or the coops may invite their speakers to the venue if their choice.
Trocio invited all coops that are interested to avail of the training as the DCCD is always ready and available to provide such service.

Trocio said that the office also provides mandatory training required for the issuance of certificates of compliance.

The Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is working towards the accreditation of all its residential care facilities by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in 2026.

Julie Dayaday, Head of the CSWDO, said, in an interview with the Madayaw Program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), that part of their strategic direction for this year is the accreditation of its residential care facilities.

CSWDO has several residential care facilities including the Co Su Gian Home for Aged for unattached, neglected, and abandoned senior citizens; CIC Balay Dangupan for the physically and sexually abused; Paginhawaan Drop-In Center for Children; Sidlakan Crisis Center for victims of violence and abuse; Quick Response Team for Childrenโ€™s Concern (QRTCC); Bahay Pag-Asa for Boys; and the Lingap Center for Mentally Challenged.

These facilities need to be accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development to ensure that we follow standard operating procedures and deliver the right services to our clients),โ€ Dayaday said.

Alongside this effort, the office has begun implementing a centralized data management system as part of its digital transformation.

โ€œTanan mag-adto sa atoang opisina, sa atoang district offices, isulod na gโ€™yud nato sa atoang data management for us na mas madali ang atoang pag-track sa serbisyo nga nahatag sa ilaha (We will register our clients in our data management system for us to easily track the type services that weโ€™re able to provide for them),โ€ Dayaday explained.

She also assured Dabawenyos that the CSWDO will continue to efficiently deliver social welfare services to all sectors in the community. CIO

The City Health Office (CHO) is doubling down on efforts to reassure parents that the measles-rubella vaccines are safe and effective and ensure that their children are protected against highly contagious illnesses.

Dr. Allyne Aguelo, Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist and Member of the Philippine Pediatric Society - Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter (PPS-DSMC), said during the ISpeak Media forum on January 15, 2026, that there is no need for patients to be concerned about where they will be vaccinated because there are no difference between vaccines administered in government health centers and those given in private clinics.

โ€œThereโ€™s no difference. And, in terms of doses quality, and safety pareha lang (There's no difference. The only difference between them is that the government's is free, while the private one has a fee. And, in terms of dose quality and safety, they are the same),โ€ she said.

She addressed the misunderstanding that often fuels reluctance, emphasizing that the long-standing safety record of the measles-rubella vaccination for forty years has no association with the likelihood of developing autism and other diseases among children.

โ€œForty years na ang measles rubella and it has proven na wala talagang correlation towards autism and other diseases, so very safe siya (Measles and rubella have been around for 40 years and have been proven to have no correlation with autism and other diseases, so it is very safe),โ€ she added.

Aguelo also added that children with mild coughs or colds can still safely receive vaccines, but those with high-grade fever may need to defer until recovery.

To further support parents, CHO also announced that the Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA) will run from January 19 to February 13, 2026 and will be available on weekends to accommodate working parents, encouraging them to complete their childrenโ€™s immunization.

She also urged Dabawenyos to see vaccination as an investment on their childโ€™s stronger and healthier future.

โ€œA healthier future begins with vaccines because, vaccines save lives,โ€ she said. CIO

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has destroyed 296 modified mufflers (bora-bora) and 270 lantakas, which were confiscated during a series of operations aimed at ensuring public safety and curbing noise pollution.

City Ordinance No. 0334-12, enacted on August 7, 2012, is the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City, which prohibits the installation of modified mufflers in any type of vehicle.

PCol. Mannan C. Muarip, Acting City Director of DCPO, told the City information Office (CIO) that the ordinance strictly prohibits the installation of modified mufflers in any type of vehicle, citing their harmful impact on both the peace and order in the community.

โ€œWe must always coordinate with the barangay chairman. With that, tulong-tulong, mas madali nating ma-identify kung kanino galing ang mga mufflers (We must always coordinate with the barangay chairman. They receive many complaints from their constituents because of that. We need to work together so that we can easily identify where the mufflers came from),โ€ he said.

Muarip added that they are now investigating the sources of these illegal mufflers to dismantle the supply chain and prevent further violations.

He also emphasized that the operations will continue, with police units conducting barangay-level raids and checkpoints to intercept violators and dismantle the supply chain of illegal mufflers.

Pwede niyo yan isurrender sa inyong mga barangay kapitan at doon namin kukunin, At kung hindi mag su-surrender, pupuntahan naming yung barangay na yon, in coordination with thee barangay official, kukunin naming yang mga muffler na gamit niyo (To our fellow Dabawenyos, we are appealing to our youth who have motorcycles, we are asking you to surrender your mufflers. You can surrender those to your barangay captains and we will collect them there. And if you don't surrender them, we will go to that barangay, in coordination with the barangay officials, and confiscate the mufflers you are using),โ€ he added.

The destruction was carried out on January 13, 2026. CIO

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) filed criminal charges against a 26-year-old individual for violating the cityโ€™s firecracker ban ordinance, following a viral video that circulated online showing her and a minor using firecrackers on New Yearโ€™s Eve.

Personnel from the Sasa Police Station formally lodged the case at the Office of the City Prosecutor on Tuesday, demonstrating the strict implementation of the ordinance.

โ€œThe case has already been filed, so ang respondent nato is magpaabot nalang sa schedule sa iyahang arraignment. Itโ€™s up to the court to decide if ma-fine ba siya, or for imprisonment, or both (Since we already filed the case, the respondent is just waiting for the schedule of her arraignment. The court will decide on the penalty whether sheโ€™ll be fined or imprisoned, or both),โ€ PMaj. Noe L. Macolbacol, Acting Station Commander of Sasa Police Station, told the City Information Office (CIO).

He said that the minor involved in the incident is awaiting the discernment of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Earlier this month, five other individuals were also caught for violating the same ordinance. Cases were already filed against them during inquests.

Since 2002, Davao City has been implementing City Ordinance No. 060-02, or the ordinance that prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession and use of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices, and other similar devices including improvised firecracker like lantaka and boga.

Individuals caught violating the ordinance may face legal charges resulting in a fine of Php 1000 or imprisonment of not more than one month but not less than 20 days, or both at the discretion of the court for the first offense.

The City Government of Davao is constantly reminding Dabawenyos to abide by the cityโ€™s ordinances and cooperate in maintaining the cityโ€™s peace and order. CIO

The 21st Davao City Council expressed its support to the Measles-Rubella Supplementary Immunization Activity (MRSIA) spearheaded by the Department of Health, in partnership with the Davao City Health Office (CHO).

On January 19 to February 13, 2026, the DOH and the CHO will conduct a city-wide SIA, offering free Measles-Rubella vaccines for children aged 6 to 59 months old.

City Councilor Potpot Villafuerte, in her Privilege Speech on Monday, called on parents, guardians, and caregivers of children to participate in the activity and have their children vaccinated against these viral diseases.

โ€œVaccination is proven safe and effective, and is a moral responsibility we owe to our children,โ€ she said.

Measles and Rubella are viral diseases that can be prevented through vaccination.

Dr. Annaliza Malubay, CHOโ€™s National Immunization Program Medical Coordinator, told the City Information Office on Monday that it is important to have children vaccinated during the SIA as this serves as booster for the vaccine they received during routine immunization activities.

โ€œMas mapakusgan nato ang proteksyon sa mga bata against sa measles and to prevent possible outbreak (The supplemental immunization serves as booster to the vaccine that children received during the routine immunization, thereby strengthening the protection of children against measles and rubella),โ€ she said.

She explained that although measles is more contagious and severe than rubella, the risk lies when a pregnant woman acquires the disease.

Rubella infection in pregnant women may cause fetal death or congenital defects such as hearing impairment, eye and heart defects, and other lifelong disabilities.

In line with the DOH and the CHOโ€™s thrust to strengthen vaccination among children, Councilor Villafuerte also urged barangay captains and the barangay councils to lead in cascading information to the grassroots level.

On January 13, the CHO and DOH will conduct an orientation with all 182 barangays on the importance of the MRSIA.

โ€œIt is a crucial step to fully mobilize our barangays to ensure accurate information and reach every household,โ€ Villafuerte said.

Daycare centers, child development centers, and child-minding facilities are also urged to encourage parents to have their children vaccinated.

Dabawenyos may avail of the free MRSIA at the CHOโ€™s district health center and barangay health centers. CIO

The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) clarified that e-trikes are still prohibited from operating on major roads.

CTTMO Head Dionisio Abude told reporters on Monday that there is still no local ordinance allowing e-trikes to accept passengers and ply national highways and major streets within the city.

โ€œAng e-trike man gud walay lisensya, wala pud marehistro, ginapasaherohan dili siya closed cab, so halos violation tanan. Meaning to say, akong sulti, liability gyud ni siya,โ€ (E-trikes have no license and is not registered. It is used to carry passengers even though it does not have a closed cab, so almost everything is a violation. Meaning to say, what Iโ€™m saying is that this is really a liability), Abude said.

He explained that unlike motorcycles-for-hire (MTH), which comply with licensing and registration requirements, e-trikes do not meet these standards. He added that e-trikes also have an advantage because of their one- or two-seater capacity, making them a viable option for passengers who are in a hurry.

Abude said that if e-trikes are to be allowed in the future, they must fall under the โ€œunconventionalโ€ category and should meet specific requirements, including having a closed cab.

If they will be allowed, they can fall under the unconventional category; they must have closed cabs, the driver should have a license, and it should be registered), he said.

Abude stressed that these measures are necessary to ensure passenger safety.

Meanwhile, Abude said impounding operations against e-trikes and sikad or payong-payong operating on major roads will continue. He said authorities primarily check for roadworthiness and registration compliance.

He emphasized that while e-trikes and sikad or payong-payong are not allowed to ply national highways and major roads, they may operate within residential areas or subdivisions. CIO

In a quiet hall inside the Childrenโ€™s Village of Davao City Bahay Pag-asa, the young residents weave through threads of color, where each loop and knot is more than a craftwork, a lesson of patience and a bridge towards reintegration.

Bahay Pag-asa shelters Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and Children at Risk (CAR) and provides them with specialized custody under Republic Act 9344, also known as the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.

Jeffrey John Sison, Center Manager of Bahay Pag-asa, told the City Information Office (CIO) that since 2018, the center has offered dreamcatcher-making as part of its practical skills development service where residents gather for sessions dedicated to weaving while balancing their school schedules.

So, karon gi mugna nila ang dreamcatchers para pamatoud nga ang ilahang mga sala na gibuhat mamahimo nga way alang sa pag develop og mausab ang ilahang nabuhat nga sala sa una (There are some residents inside the center who want to make the dreamcatchers. Because for them, their past doesn't define them. So, now they created dreamcatchers to prove that their past mistakes do not define them and that they can change their previous wrongdoings),โ€ he said.

He also added that dreamcatchers were not only financially beneficial, but the delicate and repetitious process of weaving threads has evolved into a kind of therapy that teaches the residents the values of perseverance and concentration.

Kay kung taason atung pasensya dili ta makabuhat og sala, dili ta makastorya og dili maayo (The livelihood dreamcatchers are a great help not only financially, but also in terms of their personalities. You could say it's not just a simple craft because it requires patience and focus, which they also adapt to themselves. Because if we have long patience, we won't make mistakes, we won't say bad things),โ€ he added.

Dreamcatchers are actively sold to guests visiting the center, through staff offices, and during youth-led events. Their sales is recorded by social workers to ensure that they have capital to help them launch a new livelihood projects once they return to their communities.

Last 2025, their sales reached Php90,000, including a single large dreamcatcher purchased for Php12,000.

โ€œPuhon pag gawas nila, pag reintegrate nila sailahang pamilya og sa community, dala dala nila ang ilahang income sa ilahang dreamcatchers alang sa pagsugod sa ilahang livelihood pag gawas nila dinhi sa center (When they leave and reintegrate to their families and communities, they will bring their income with them in their dreamcatchers to start their livelihoods when they leave the center),โ€ he said.

The Children's Village offers CICL and CAR residential care including psychosocial care, self-help activities, health and nutrition services, group supervision, socio-cultural and recreational activities, spiritual and moral welfare, values education, family preservation and unification, case management, psychological evaluation, occupational therapy, and educational assistance.

The City Government of Davao continues to strengthen rehabilitation programs that protect the welfare of the youth and secure their future, reflecting its long standing commitment to give young people second chances and sustainable opportunities. CIO

Despite the zero number of measles cases in Davao City last year, the Davao City Health Office (CHO) is intensifying its campaign against measles through a citywide supplemental immunization activity, offering free measles vaccine to all eligible children.

Measles is a highly contagious disease which may lead to complications, especially in children aged five or younger. A patient with the virus can spread it to around 12 to 18 other individuals, making widespread vaccination critical to community protection.

Dr. Annaliza Malubay, National Immunization Program Medical Coordinator of CHO, told the City Information Office (CIO) that the cityโ€™s role as a hub for travellers makes it vulnerable to outbreaks despite last yearโ€™s zero record of measles cases.

Thatโ€™s why we have to intensify kay ang mga bata man gud sa Davao og dili lang kay from Davao, dghan naga sulod na mga bata from other regions. So, kailangan nato iprotect bisan negative pata last year sa measles kay para ma prevent ang outbreak (For 2025, we have no positives cases in Davao City, we are negative for measles here. That's why we have to intensify because the children in Davao, and not just from Davao, many children from other regions are coming in. So, we need to protect although we were negative for measles last year, we also have to protect them to prevent an outbreak),โ€ she said.

The Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA) will run from January 19 to February 13, 2026, from Monday to Sunday, covering all districts, satellite health centers, and barangay-level vaccination posts.

The CHO target is to vaccinate around 154,000 children aged six months to 59 months, with the goal of achieving at least 95 percent coverage to ensure community protection.

She also advised parents to take advantage of the campaign period by coordinating with their barangay health professionals, as vaccination teams will be deployed to barangays to guarantee that all children receive the free vaccine.

โ€œLibre ni siya. We have 18 districts sa Davao City, 18 ka main health centers og dili lang ta mag pundo dinha kundi mag adto mi sa mga barangay, sa mga puroks para lang gyud atong ma reach katung mga target na consitutents which is 6 months to 59 months old (Itโ€™s free. We have 18 districts in Davao City, with 18 main health centers per health center. Weโ€™ll go to the barangays, to the puroks, just to reach those target constituents, which are children aged 6 months to 59 months old), โ€ she added.

Malubay emphasized that the campaign is non-selective, meaning all eligible children will be vaccinated regardless of previous doses.

She also assured the Dabawenyos that the vaccines being provided are both safe and effective and any questions or doubts should be addressed directly with health centers or doctors, rather than relying on unverified information circulating on social media.

โ€œAng pagbakuna kay safe ni siya and then number two, it prevents the occurrences of vaccine preventable disease so I hope kung naa man tay mga questions, doubts and confusions pwede ragyud na ninyo i-address sa mga health centers or doctors. Dili lang ta mag asa like sa mga social media, daghan kaayo ta og makita so ang uban mahadlok nalang so dapat i-validate ba kung tinoud or dili. I can say that our vaccines, they are safe and effective (The vaccine is safe, and secondly, it prevents the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases. So I hope that if you have any questions, doubts, or confusions, you can address them at health centers or with doctors. We shouldn't just rely on social media, as there's so much to see and some people just get scared, so we need to verify whether it's true or not. I can say that our vaccines are safe and effective),โ€she said.

Byaheng DO30

Byaheng DO30 is a 3-year initiative of at least 30 doable and meaningful projects starting 2016. These projects would contribute to the security and sustainable development of Davao City. We can achieve security and development if we are able to reduce poverty incidence, create a skilled and educated workforce and support globally competitive businesses.

The City Government of Davao envisions a future for Davao City where families can provide sufficient food for themselves, their children are skilled or college graduates and they live in decent housing.

The administration has identified ten priority areas to build Davao City around this vision. These priorities are Poverty Alleviation, Infrastructure Development, Solid Waste Management, Education, Health, Agriculture, Tourism, Transportation Planning and Traffic Management, Peace and Order, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation.
