Acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo โRigoโ Duterte II joined thousands of scouts in celebrating a major milestoneโthe 60th founding anniversary of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) โ Davao City Council.
Founded on July 24, 1965 under the authority of Commonwealth Act No. 111, the BSP Davao Council has been a pillar of youth development and civic service in the city, promoting values-based leadership and volunteerism across generations.
Addressing the crowd of some 3,000 scouts, Duterte expressed the cityโs deep appreciation for the Councilโs decades-long commitment to service, environmental advocacy, and disaster response.
"Truly, your Scouting movements contributed to the betterment of the city," Duterte said.
He emphasized how vital Scouting is in shaping tomorrowโs leaders and building a stronger, more values-driven society.
"Scouting creates space for the youth to explore with purpose and develop values such as the love for country and fellow Dabawenyos."
The young Duterte also gave assurance that the city government, particularly the Office of the Vice Mayor, will continue to be a firm ally of the BSP.
"The Office of the Vice Mayor will remain steadfast in helping the BSP in its goal to provide opportunities for the youth to develop their skills, explore without hesitations, and to inoculate important values."
The event was also graced by BSP-Davao Council President Atty. Wendel E. Avisado and City Councilors Ragde Ibuyan, Sweet Advincula, and Petite Principeโfurther highlighting the strong partnership between the city government and the Scouting movement.
As Davao celebrates six decades of Scouting, the city honors not just an organization, but a movement that continues to empower and inspire generations of young Dabawenyos to lead with courage, serve with heart, and build a brighter future.
