Diwalwal (The Boy and the Fight of Spiders) Jarell Serencio's first feature film project in advanced development participated the first residency workshop of TorinoFilmLab FeatureLab programme in Opatija, Croatia.

FeatureLab is a training programme dedicated to 1st and 2nd feature film projects from all over the world, at an advanced stage of development. 10 creative teams of director and producer are selected to take part in the three-workshop path starting in June 2024 and ending with the TFL Meeting Event in November at Turin, Italy, during which the participants have one-to-one meetings with market guests and pitching event.

We need to support the local filmmaking community because it is through film that we can really help shape the narratives of our tri-people for the world to see. Unfortunately, we don’t see regional films being used by teachers and we also don’t see much discussion of local films through written film reviews on newspapers and even video content on social media.

MEM together with its partners would like to develop film literacy champions for Mindanao. This workshop will help participants use their critical lens in writing quality film reviews as articles or videos.

Very grateful to Qcinema for providing us the platform to present our project to local and international companies and awarding us the QPM - PH Co-Production Grant for our first feature film project, The Boy and The Fight of Spiders (Diwalwal).

Tunnelling through the sticky web of land development, family ties, and loss, through the eyes of a 12 year old boy, this beautifully intricate story set in Mt. Diwalwal, sets up a magical coming of age film infused with gold and grief.
