UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO AMONG 35 PH SCHOOLS IN 2026 QS ASIA RANKINGS

LOOK: The University of Mindanao (UM) has been included in the 2026 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings, joining 34 other Philippine institutions, the country’s strongest showing yet.

The University of the Philippines led local universities at 104th, followed by Ateneo de Manila University (141st), De La Salle University (178th), and University of Santo Tomas (184th).

Leading the Asian list are the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore, which shared third place.

QS assessed schools using 11 indicators, including academic and employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international research, and citation impact.

The ranking, established in 2009, recognizes academic excellence and research influence among Asia’s top universities.

NEWS UPDATE: Tropical Storm Fung-Wong (Uwan) has intensified into a severe tropical storm, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its early morning advisory on Friday, November 7, PAGASA said the potential super typhoon is still approaching the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and will be given the local name “Uwan” once it enters late Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Tino exited the PAR at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.

TYPHOON TINO DEATH TOLL RISES TO 188: OCD

NEWS UPDATE: The Office of Civil Defense reported that fatalities from Typhoon Tino have risen to 188, with Cebu recording the most at 139.

A total of 135 people remain missing, mostly from Cebu, while 96 others were injured.

Search, rescue, and relief operations continue in affected areas.
