An Open Letter to Vice Ganda
Dear Vice Ganda,
We write to you not out of anger, but out of a deep sense of responsibility to uphold the dignity of our city and its people.Your recent remarks during your concert—referencing former President Rodrigo Duterte and the West Philippine Sea—have sparked concern and disappointment among many Dabawenyos.
While humor is a powerful tool for expression, it also carries weight. When jokes cross into disrespect, especially toward communities and leaders who have shaped our history and identity, they cease to entertain and begin to wound.Davao City is more than a punchline.
We are a community built on resilience, unity, and pride. We do not seek conflict, but we will not remain silent when our name is used for clout or mockery. We believe in responsible artistry—one that uplifts, challenges, and inspires without tearing others down.
We hope this moment becomes an opportunity for reflection. Public figures like you hold immense influence, and with that comes the power to heal or to divide. We invite you to see Davao not through the lens of controversy, but through the stories of its people—their strength, their kindness, and their unwavering love for their home.
Respectfully,
The People of Davao City
