I used to think debt only came from indulgence.
From shopping. From credit cards. From “just because I want it.”
But I was wrong.
One of my clients is the eldest in his family.
Five siblings.
Two jobs. No vices. No luxuries.
And yet… drowning in debt.
Why?
Because his entire paycheck isn’t for him.
It’s for school fees, rent, medicine, food on the table.
For the family.
And him?
He quietly endures. Quietly works.
No complaints. No recognition.
That’s when I realized:
Not all debt is born from irresponsibility.
Sometimes, it’s born from love.
From responsibility.
From being the eldest.
From being the “second parent.”
We often praise people like him:
“You’re so hardworking.” “You’re so kind.”
But rarely do we ask:
“Are you tired?”
So if this is you..
Silently giving, silently fighting…
Remember, you can support without destroying yourself.
You can say, “This is my limit for now.”
You can rest.
You can save.
You can rebuild.
You’re not selfish for wanting to breathe.
You’re not weak for choosing to care for yourself too.
Because in the end,
You can help more when you’re whole.
Not from pressure,
But from peace.
So to all the breadwinners and silent fighters:
You don’t need to be a hero by erasing yourself.
You can be a hero with boundaries.
With balance.
With a life of your own.
You deserve to breathe.
You deserve to live.
You deserve to rest.
And yes... you deserve peace too.
