Congratulations and bon voyage to two College of Arts and Sciences Education students as they embark on a semester of study as exchange students in Malaysia.

Jayvee B. Prado and Roquela Jean J. Capote, 3rd-year students in the BA Communication program, are all set to become international students at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. They are the third batch from the BA Communication program to study abroad as exchange students, and the first to be sent to Malaysia.

UiTM is the largest comprehensive university in Malaysia, providing innovative education with state-of-the-art infrastructure and technology within reach at its 34 campuses. It ranked 116th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, 301st-400th in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings 2025, and 5th in Malaysia in the UI GreenMetric 2025.

โ€ŽThe program commenced with an opening remarks from the CASE Assistant Dean Dr. Maico Demi Aperocho. The event continues with the energetic performance by the Falcon Squad, followed by the presentation of the previous year's accomplishments report by former Vice President Celynn Pearl Libu-on . This was succeeded by the ceremonial passing of the key of responsibility and the oath-taking ceremony led by OSA Director Dir. Marianne Afrondoza.

โ€ŽThe assembly concluded with fun and interactive activities that encouraged active student participation. The event served as a meaningful gathering of CASE student organizations, fostering unity, camaraderie, and engagement, while marking a renewed commitment to leadership, service, and academic excellence for Academic Year 2026-2027.

The assembly featured discussions on topics ranging from Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation to leadership training, providing student leaders with opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills, and commitment to service.

September 1, 2026 โ€” Formalizing its efforts toward developing impactful research today, the University of Mindanao formally established a new relationship to support the development of high impact research projects with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) by signing Memoranda of Agreement for several large-scale Research & Development projects. This marks an important step in strengthening the University's research program through increased interdisciplinary research and providing support to large-scale R&D projects that focus on developing practical solutions, technologies, and innovations that address real world problems and needs from community or industrial sectors โ€” which are aligned with the University's strategic objectives.

In addition to the signings, the event also featured Dr. Angelo B, Baรฑares presenting his Exit Report under the Balik Scientist Program. In his talk, "Building Synbio in the South and Beyond: The GGGG Codeโ€”Genes, Grit, Grants, and Good People," Baรฑares emphasized opportunities to further advance synthetic biology in Mindanao while highlighting significant achievements and research partnerships formed during his involvement with the University. The events earlier not only mark the start of a fruitful future with UMโ€™s dedication to Research and Development, but also demonstrate UMโ€™s dedication to โ€œAgham na Ramdamโ€, highlighting a vision of research that produces tangible effects beyond academic outputs.
