China’s Xiaomi will only consider selling cars outside China from 2027, Lei Jun, CEO of the smartphone turned electric vehicle maker, said during a livestream on Wednesday. The company has to focus on its domestic market in the meantime given robust orders for its SU7 and YU7 cars, he said.

Xiaomi had earlier mentioned 2027 as the first year for potential overseas shipments of its EVs. The electric SU7 sedan has outsold Tesla ‘s Model 3 on a monthly basis since December and the YU7 sports utility vehicle received robust orders in the first 18 hours after it went on sale last Thursday.

Huawei patented a solid-state EV battery with up to 2,000 miles range and five-minute charging, boasting 400–500 Wh/kg energy density.

The sulfide-based battery intensifies Huawei’s EV tech push amid competition from Chinese firms like BYD, driving global solid-state patent filings.

Experts warn that ultra-fast charging infrastructure isn’t viable yet, and the technology is still in early development.

"KFC has introduced driverless food trucks in Shanghai through a collaboration with Chinese autonomous vehicle company Neolix. These compact, self-driving vehicles are equipped with touchscreen menus and QR code payment systems, allowing customers to select and pay for their meals without human interaction. Once payment is completed, a compartment door opens for the customer to retrieve their order. This innovation aims to provide a contactless dining experience, particularly relevant in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The autonomous KFC trucks utilize advanced technologies, including 5G connectivity, LiDAR, cameras, and radar systems, to navigate urban environments safely. Designed for Level 4 autonomous driving, these vehicles can operate without human oversight under certain conditions. Their deployment reflects a growing trend toward automation in the food service industry, offering a glimpse into the potential future of fast-food delivery and retail."

China’s battery giant CATL has officially become the first company to meet the country’s new “No Fire, No Explosion” battery safety standard!

This groundbreaking regulation, set to take effect in July 2026, ensures that EV batteries can withstand thermal runaway events without catching fire or exploding—marking a huge leap forward in battery safety.

CATL’s Qilin battery passed rigorous safety tests. New standard requires batteries to endure bottom impact tests, 300 fast-charging cycles, and short-circuit stress scenarios. Over 18 million vehicles worldwide are already powered by CATL batteries.
