SMA Bags Overall 2nd place during District Schools Press Conference

Saint Mary's Academy wins overall secondary 2nd place during the Diffun I District Schools Press Conference held at Diffun National High School this Friday and Saturday, March 10-11

The qualifiers are Kristoffer Legaspi, 1st place during the event in the field Editorial Writing in English, as well as Jiezylle Buslig in Sci-tech Writing in English, whereas, Trojan Arce Asuncion (Feature Writing in English), Godwin Joshua Mamauag (Photojournalism in English) and Adina Kim Bulan (Copy-editing and Headline Writing in English) in 2nd Place.

Cassie Celestino (Editorial Cartooning in English), Sydney Basilio (Editorial Writing in English) and Jewel Zoe Cariaga (News Writing in English) with spots in 3rd place.

While Archangel Garcia (Editorial Writing in English) along with Althea Hannah Zambrano (Newswriting in Filipino), Yuanne Nicole Alcantara (Photojournalism in English), Zia Gervacio (Photojournalism in Filipino) and Jolie Kaye Bulan (Copy-editing and Headline Writing in English) were ranked 4th placers. Along with them, Eissen Khrys Abad (Editorial Writing in Filipino) and Leshlyn Sansano (Feature Writing in English) ranked 5th during the event.

Meanwhile the 6th place was bagged by Lovely Zai Alvarez (Editorial Writing in English), Adrian Jasper Ramos (Feature Writing in Filipino), Edvhielyn Acebo (News Writing in English), Althea Blanca Parungao (Photojournalism in Filipino), Larry James Panelo (Cartooning - English), Simranpreet Singh (Cartooning- Filipino) and Chariz Bautista (Sci-tech Writing in Filipino), whereas, Mikaella Jasmine Rafal (News Writing in English) and Alfred Jake Castallido (Photojournalism in English) ranked 7th place during the said event.

As the event comes to an end, Edleen Pariñas and Mae Andres, the School Paper Advisers of SMA congratulates their students for being able to achieve the said awards without much time to hold a proper training.

Though the qualifiers for the Division Schools Press Conference are those who ranked first to fifth, every student journalist did their best to bring glory to the school that they represent.

SMA celebrates its 53rd founding anniversary.

Saint Mary's Academy (SMA) celebrated its 53rd founding anniversary on March 3, 2023.

Students and teachers of SMA began their celebration by presenting a parade with the Elementary and High School Department Drum and Lyre Corps,and the CAT officers, along with their cadets.

After the parade, CAT officers and their cadets performed an exhibition, followed by a unity dance of all SMA learners and teachers.

In the afternoon, the Grade 12 students held activities for students, in which the students who participated could win prizes. There were games such as "Red Light, Green Light," "Iputok Mo Bey-Beh," "Agawin Mo ang Buko Ko," "Tug of War," and many more!

SMA celebrates Science-Math Month

SMA celebrated the Science-Math month through a culminating activity at San Pedro Calungsod gymnasium this Friday, February 3.

The day started with a mass before the actual program. Students and their advisers participated in many activities during this celebration.

In the Science-Math Quiz Bee, the section St. Robert Bellarmine came in first place for the Junior Highschool (JHS) category, and St. Teresa of Calcutta for the Senior Highschool (SHS) category.

Meanwhile, in the Poster Making Contest, Dharlene Domingo from St. Claire came in first place.

On the other hand, Archangel Garcia from St. Robert won the Slogan Making Contest.

For the Chess Tournament JHS category, Lovely Alvarez (St. Robert) and Cyron Calimag (St. Albert) were champions.

Meanwhile on the SHS category of the Chess Tournament, Karl Ramirez and Angelique Abalos from St. Rose of Lima both won the competition.

For the Rubik’s Cube Tournament, Rachelle Miles (St. Philomena) came in first place for JHS category, and Eidrhyckx Corpuz (St. Monica) for SHS category.

For the Mobile Legends Tournament, St. Gerald came in first place for JHS category, and St. Raymond for SHS category.

For the Mr. and Ms. Ecovogue, the Grade 8 (JHS) and Grade 12 (SHS) pairs won the competition.

For the Scientist/Mathematician Lookalike, the Grade 9 St. Gerald (JHS category) and Grade 10 St. Rose (SHS category) won the competition.
