If everything that goes wrong is still somehow Joe Biden’s fault, then Donald Trump is making a pretty devastating argument against himself.

At some point, a president has to own the country he is actually governing.

Trump has repeatedly presented himself as the ultimate problem-solver — the man who could fix the economy, secure the border, end wars, lower prices, restore American strength, and clean up Washington.

So if months into his presidency every major problem is still blamed on Biden, what exactly is Trump admitting?

Either Biden somehow remains powerful enough to control events long after leaving office, or Trump simply has not been capable of delivering the dramatic change he promised.

You cannot take credit for every piece of good news while blaming your predecessor for everything that goes wrong.

Leadership does not work that way.

Presidents inherit problems. Every administration does.

The question is what they actually do about them.

Trump wanted the job. He campaigned on being able to fix everything.

So eventually, “Biden’s fault” stops sounding like an explanation.

It starts sounding like an excuse.
