On this day, August 30, 2025, we commemorate the birth of Marcelo H. del Pilar (1850–1896), widely recognized as the 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦.

A distinguished lawyer, writer, and publisher, del Pilar, writing under the pen name 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥, served as editor of 𝐋𝐚 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 and played a pivotal role in advancing Philippine journalism. His enduring contributions continue to inspire the observance of 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐲 and the ongoing pursuit of a free and responsible press.

Our BA Communication faculty of UM Digos College proudly conducted a benchmarking activity and initial linkage meeting with the University of Mindanao Broadcasting Network (UMBN) — a media network owned and operated by the University of Mindanao.

This collaboration aims to widen the scope of our academic preparations for the upcoming school year, offering students first-hand exposure to real-world broadcasting practices and aligning our curriculum with industry standards. Here's to building stronger ties and brighter futures for our future media professionals!
