Art and literature that are unseen have been deservedly brought to the forefront. 🌟

Last October 14 and 17, HEIGHTS Ateneo held their Creative Talks Series entitled "Witnessing Art in the Peripheries," in line with the university’s Talakayang Alay sa Bayan (TALAB) 2025 with the theme "Walking with the Excluded."

HEIGHTS would like to thank our speakers—Mr. Harvey Castillo, Mr. Michael Ner Mariano, Ms. Gean Sollestre, Mr. Pepe Mendoza, Mr. Oscar Campomanes, and Mr. Arbeen "Tilde" Acuña—for passionately sharing their wisdom and experience.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to everyone who attended and took part in our journey of building a culture of care. As we walk with our insights, may we continue to make distinct forms of art and literature known and loved. 🫂

Q***r rights are human rights. 🏳️‍🌈❤️

Last October 10, the Ateneo community came together for : Tahanan sa Tanan, a university-wide celebration of diversity and inclusion organized by the Sanggunian: Commission on Gender Equality. The Pride march across campus and concert featuring q***r artists and allies—including Sassa Gurl, Naia Black, and Gabriela She-lang—sought to highlight both solidarity and the growing visibility of LGBTQIA+ students within the university.

The celebration may have ended, but the spirit of Pride continues to move beyond the campus: into the streets, homes, and everyday lives where the fight for equality endures.

Acuña is a Professor at the University of the Philippines under the Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature, known for creative writing in Filipino and various literary analyses, and serves as co-editor for different anthologies. Joining him is Campomanes, a professor at the Ateneo de Manila University under the Department of English, who has authored critical think pieces on literature and colonialism.

Books and stories come alive when shared with a community. 📚

Last September 15 to 19, the Ateneo Literary and Cultural Festival (ALCF) brought together students, writers, and readers in a week-long celebration of Philippine culture and literature.

Organized by the Literary and Cultural Studies Program, Kritika Kultura, and PLUME, the Higher Education cluster’s premier literary organization and home of AB Literature–English majors and minors, and in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the festival created spaces for conversation and creativity to thrive.

Across five days, the festival featured workshops, talks, and a lively book fair that focused on deepening the community’s engagement with Philippine literature and cultural studies, highlighting both emerging and established voices.
