“Being in the same room with passionate mentors and mentees allowed me to recognize my own passion as an artist.”

As an illustrator in the continuous process of cultivating her craft, Cathy Naciongayo reflects on art as a cycle of learning from and with other people. Art imitates life as we experience it, and Cathy’s fellowship in the 15th Ateneo HEIGHTS Artists’ Workshop (AHAW) has shared with her this space to create alongside esteemed mentors and mentees.

How do we express our appreciation of art?

Celebrating 25 years of existence, the Ateneo Fine Arts Department invites the Atenean community to attend the exhibition opening of "Refraction: Best of Art Appreciation 10 2024-25" on October 1 at the 2nd Floor of Areté, Department of Fine Arts Hallways from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The showcase displays the best Art Appreciation 10 works from academic year 2024 to 2025, as well as ARTS 102 student artworks from the second semester of the same year. Commemorating the department's silver anniversary, the exhibit will run until October 30.

What role did the academe serve during Martial Law?

On October 1, the roundtable discussion "Martial Law and the Academe: Remembering Francisco 'Dodong' Nemenzo and the Marcos Dictatorship" will be held at the Natividad Galang Fajardo Room, Dela Costa Hall from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The discussion highlights Nemenzo's advocacy for academic freedom during Martial Law and his emphasis on the role of the academe in social activism. Moderated by Oscar Campomanes, PhD, the roundtable features Patricio “Jojo” Abinales, PhD, Michael Pante , PhD, and Sol Iglesias, PhD, with Ana Maria "Princess" Nemenzo acting as discussant.

“Partaking in the workshop rekindled my once-dormant love for art.”

In her freshman year, Toscha Lumbao became a fellow for the 15th Ateneo HEIGHTS Artists’ Workshop (AHAW), where the self-taught artist engaged with esteemed artists and co-fellows and received feedback on her artworks through meticulous discussions.

For Toscha, the workshop was an interactive and fun space that reinvigorated her passion for creation ever since childhood. In cultivating this love for art, HEIGHTS Ateneo invites students of the Higher Education Cluster to join AHAW by submitting their portfolio by October 3, 11:59 PM.

Tunay ka bang nakikinig sa kapwa mo?

Noong Agosto, itinanghal sa Rizal Mini Theater ang produksiyong Sopranong Kalbo sa direksiyon ni Ron Capinding at salin ni Rolando Tinio ng The Bald Soprano ni Eugene Ionesco. Masasaksihan dito ang mga pagkukulang natin sa pang-araw-araw na komunikasyon, at kung paano natin ito maaaring pag-igihan.

Kapansin-pansin sa pagtatanghal ang absurdist na atake sa mga ordinaryong araw sa isang tahanang Pilipino, kaya naman mahusay na nagawa ng dula na magpatawa ng mga manonood at magsalamin ng buhay nila.

Mariing kinokondena ng Confederation of Publications (COP) ng Ateneo de Manila University (HEIGHTS Ateneo, Matanglawin Ateneo, at The GUIDON) ang administrasyong Marcos sa patuloy nitong pambabalewala sa mga karumaldumal na pangyayari noong Batas Militar at sa pagpapalaganap ng parehong mga inhustisyang umalipin sa maraming henerasyon ng mga Pilipino. Walang tunay na pag-usad para sa isang bansa na nakakalimot magbigay-dangal sa sariling nakaraan.

Basahin ang buong pahayag dito.

(The Confederation of Publications (COP) of the Ateneo de Manila University (HEIGHTS Ateneo, Matanglawin Ateneo, and The GUIDON) condemns the Marcos administration for its continued dismissal of the horrors of Martial Law and its perpetuation of the same injustices that oppressed generations of Filipinos. There is no moving forward for a nation that forgets to honor its past.
