To all the aunts who became mothers through love, sacrifice, and responsibility, this Mother’s Day is for you too.
Some children grew up calling someone “Auntie,” while receiving the kind of love only a mother could give. The sleepless nights, the sacrifices, the worrying, the comforting, the putting a child’s needs before your own. You carried a role you were never obligated to take, yet you loved as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
As someone raised by my aunt, I know the kind of love that comes from a woman who chose you, even when she didn’t have to. And maybe that’s what makes it even more heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Because real motherhood is not only about blood. Sometimes, it is about the people who stayed, who protected you, who raised you with tired hands and a selfless heart.
Some of us would not be who we are today without an aunt who quietly gave up parts of her own life just to make ours better.
So today, we celebrate you too.
Not just as an aunt,
but as one of the greatest forms of a mother.
