To boost farm tourism and inspire more students to take up agriculture courses, MMSU College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) Dingras campus, Philippine Rice Research Institute - Batac Station, and the Local Government Unit of Dingras launched their first rice paddy art featuring the image of DoΓ±a Josefa Llanes Escoda, founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines and the only national heroine from the municipality.
The public viewing of the paddy art will start on September 4 in celebration of her 126th birth anniversary.
The paddy art was planted in a 2,100-square meter farm using IR 1552 (traditional Korean purple variety) and NSIC RC 222, a high-yielding in**ed variety. The transplanting was held on July 26-27 by personnel from CAFSD-Dingras and PhilRice-Batac and practicum students.
Dr. Charlie Batin, CAFSD OIC dean, commended the faculty, staff, and students of the Dingras campus for the initiative, which demonstrated the collegeβs effort in nurturing future agriculturists and promoting innovative rice production technologies.
Recently, MMSU and PhilRice conducted a ceremonial transplanting of rice paddy art in the university extension demonstration area. Now in its seventh year, the paddy art in the main campus will feature the image of Senator Imee Marcos and her βIMEEsolusyonβ banner program.
