WHAT COMES NEXT: THE BATTLE FOR THE SENATE
The House of Representatives has done its part: Sara Duterte has been impeached. But the fight is far from over.
With the Senate taking a break and the May elections looming, the real battle is about to begin.
The re-electionist senators are now shifting gears, hitting the campaign trail, and preparing for a Senate that will decide whether Sara gets convicted or walks free.
If there’s one thing we know about the DDS, it’s that they don’t take losses lightly. Their outrage is real, the rallying cry is loud, and they will show up at the polls as a solid bloc.
They know that the only way to stop Sara’s impeachment from pushing through is to secure enough pro-Sara votes in the Senate—and you can bet they’ll do whatever it takes.
Meanwhile, the Loyalists and BBM supporters are just as determined. They know that BBM needs a Senate stacked with his allies not just to ensure his agenda moves forward, but to protect him from the very forces trying to undermine him.
So, expect a massive voter turnout from the pro-Marcos camp, too.
And, now, we turn to the Dilaws, Kakampinks, and the Left—or, collectively, the "real opposition".
The big question is: Do they have WINNABLE candidates? Or are they going to throw their votes away on candidates with NO REAL CHANCE and risk handing the Senate to pro-Sara forces?
This isn’t just an election. This is about whether Sara Duterte walks away unscathed or faces the consequences of her actions.
If the Senate is packed with her allies, the impeachment dies right then and there.
If the opposition remains divided, stuck in ideological purity, refusing to make strategic choices, then they might as well hand the Senate to the Dutertes on a silver platter.
This is not the time to sit back, eat popcorn, and rant on social media. The Kakampinks are a massive voting bloc, and if they make the right choices, they can actually shape the future of the Philippines.
But it requires one thing: strategy. Not idealism. Not purity politics. Strategy.
The numbers are clear: If they divide their votes too thinly, they will lose.
And, if they lose, they will be forced to watch Sara Duterte stay in power, untouched, while the Senate protects her. On top of that, they might be persecuted again along with the Marcoses and Romualdez.
Let’s be blunt: if Sara survives impeachment, she will come back stronger. She will be ruthless.
If the DDS get their numbers in the Senate, they will block every attempt to remove her. Worse, they will weaponize the institution to go after their critics—the very people who fought to bring accountability.
If the opposition cannot unite, they are setting themselves up for failure. Because this election is bigger than just voting for "the best candidates."; this election is about survival.
For the real opposition, voting for pro-Duterte candidates is out of the question.
The years of political persecution, red-tagging, and relentless attacks have been too much to bear. There’s no way they will reward the same people who worked to silence them.
But, here’s the reality: If they want to stop a pro-Sara Senate, they have to vote strategically.
They have to give a chance to candidates whom they won't normally consider but align with their core values of democracy, human rights, accountability, and good governance.
It is not enough to just reject Sara’s allies—they need to actively vote for candidates WHO CAN WIN and who will fight against her influence in the Senate.
Yes, this is about winning, and not just standing on moral high ground.
So, if you’re still on the fence, waiting for the perfect candidate, debating whether to vote at all, ask yourself this:
Can you live with the Senate being controlled by pro-Duterte forces?
Can you accept Sara Duterte walking away unscathed?
Can you afford to sit this one out and let others decide the country’s future for you?
There is no room for indecision. There is no room for wasted votes.
This is not a time for sentimental, feel-good politics.
This is a time to be practical, calculated, and be strategic.
Vote like the future of the country depends on it.
Because it does.
