In Dipolog City, a compelling narrative of faith, determination, and the sweet rewards of hard work unfolds with Kakanin Delights, the passion project of Devine Mers Dumaog and her husband named Kevincharl Marchan.
Devine's journey is a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved with unwavering faith and resilience. Despite having an engineering background and no prior experience in the food industry, she ventured into the world of kakanin during the challenging times of the 2020 pandemic. Drawing inspiration from her parents' history of making traditional treats like "potpot" and "kutsinta," she introduced "Bilao" to the local market. However, a sudden withdrawal by her business partner/friend, coupled with doubts about the product's marketability, presented a significant obstacle. Devine said "Di gyod nako malimtan iyang giingon nga Devine, di nalang ko modayun karun kay di man diay mahalin nang ing ana. Pang karaan mana, mga korean foods may uso ron."
Devine pressed on, fueled by her faith. A crucial moment arrived when Mr. Kenny Ong ordered a "Bilao" and offered valuable encouragement and opportunities, recognizing the potential for her products at larger events. Shortly after, a dear friend, recognizing her potential, ordered another "Bilao," providing her with the necessary capital to continue. This friend's belief in her was a vital instrument sent by God, encouraging her to push through and ultimately leading to the success of Kakanin Delights' launch. Throughout this journey, her husband, Kevincharl Marchan, was her steadfast partner. His tireless efforts in constructing the cart and handling numerous other tasks complemented Devine's role in managing the business and crafting their delectable offerings.
Now, on February 28, 2025, Kakanin Delights celebrates a major milestone with the opening of its first physical store, in partnership with Koffea Daily, owned by Mr. Joseph Lopez Gania and Ms. Keziah Grace Binondo. This collaboration brings together the delightful flavors of Kakanin Delights' signature "Pica-Pica," "Sweet Corner," and the popular "P**o Bumbong" with the aromatic coffees of Koffea Daily.
Visit Kakanin Delights and Koffea Daily at their new location on Echavez Street, Dipolog City (Beside CLS, in front of Socorro Bridal Gown), open from 4 AM to 10 PM daily. Experience the warm hospitality and taste the sweet success of a business built on faith and perseverance.
