Dear Mr. Dio Remollo,

I would like to correct you on several points. There have been numerous instances where your father, a losing candidate for Congressman in the Second District of Negros Oriental — which includes Dumaguete City — has been going around the Pantawan and Boulevard inspecting ongoing projects of the City. While it may be true that these projects were initiated during his term, they are not his personal projects. These belong to the people of Dumaguete. Yet, he is seen walking around, talking to workers, and acting as if he is still the Mayor of Dumaguete City. This is what I was referring to — not merely his recent appearance in the Senate.

Another point: if the issue at hand is truly about helping the country, why did your father, in his nine years as Mayor, never once appear in the Senate to be a resource person on pressing matters such as low-cost housing projects in Dumaguete? Why only now — after losing the congressional election, and after you lost the mayoralty race — is he suddenly making these appearances? Whether invited or not, the timing gives the impression of political posturing rather than pure civic duty.

You are trying to confuse the people of Dumaguete, but the fact remains: both you and your father lost the recent elections. The people have chosen a new administration. They deserve the chance and opportunity to serve without constant political distractions. Your father has yet to accept that he is no longer the Mayor and that he lost his congressional bid.

And please, you cannot boast that your father “won in Dumaguete” when he ran for Congressman of the Second District. The results speak for themselves — you even lost the mayoral race. If the Remollo name truly commanded the love and confidence of the people, these losses would not have happened.

Let us put matters in their proper perspective. Let the new administration work and prove that the people’s vote was not in vain. It is time to stop the grandstanding and the politicking.

Respectfully,
A Concerned Citizen of Dumaguete

𝐀𝐧 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲

To the Honorable Former Mayor of Dumaguete City,

Sir,

The 2025 local elections have come and gone. The people of Dumaguete have spoken — clearly, decisively, and democratically. Yet, weeks after the results were finalized and a new administration duly sworn in, you continue to act as though you are still the sitting mayor of this city.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, not just about your intentions, but about your respect for the democratic process, the rule of law, and — above all — the will of the people.

You once stood as a public servant — a position of honor and responsibility. But in clinging to power after a clear electoral loss, you have begun to resemble something else entirely: a politician who cannot accept defeat, who refuses to step aside with dignity, and who appears to believe that the city belongs to him, rather than to its people.

Leadership is not proven in victory alone. It is revealed in how one faces defeat. Great leaders know when to bow out. They understand that service does not always mean holding office — sometimes, it means stepping aside so others may serve.

Your continued interference, your public appearances as though you still govern, and your refusal to acknowledge the legitimacy of the new administration are not just inappropriate — they are embarrassing. Not only for you, but for the very office you once held. It casts a long shadow on your legacy and raises doubts about your motivations.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 — 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐬.

𝐖𝐞 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮: 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 — 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐭. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭.

There is still time to show the people of Dumaguete that you can lead with grace, even in defeat.

History remembers not just what leaders did in power, but how they acted when it was time to let go.

Respectfully,
A Concerned Citizen of Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY – Newly elected Mayor Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria officially assumed office, marking the beginning of a fresh chapter for Dumaguete City. With a firm commitment to transformative leadership, Mayor Sagarbarria wasted no time as he immediately signed eight executive orders, signaling bold changes and ambitious plans for the city.

Among his first major actions as mayor was the implementation of an increase in daily wages for city government employees — raising the standard rate to ₱463 per day. The move was met with overwhelming approval from city workers, many of whom expressed gratitude for the timely economic relief amid rising living costs.

Mayor Sagarbarria, who previously served as city mayor from 2010 to 2016, returns with a renewed vision: to turn Dumaguete into a more progressive, livable, and inclusive city.

With strong backing from the city council and growing support from the public, Mayor Sagarbarria’s administration begins on a promising note, aiming to deliver swift, meaningful change to the people of Dumaguete.

Despite President Trump’s claims of a “total obliteration,” preliminary U.S. intelligence indicates the recent strikes on Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan have only delayed Iran’s nuclear program by a few months – underground facilities and uranium stockpiles remain largely intact.

The White House continues to defend the operation, citing “extremely severe damage”, while Iran asserts the hits were “superficial” with no irreversible harm. A fragile cease-fire now holds between Israel and Iran, brokered under direct U.S. involvement

The "total ceasefire" between Israel and Iran begins at approximately 0400 GMT (12:00 p.m. PH time) this Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said.
