‘TIME OUT’, SARA STUMBLES ON QUESTION ABOUT PUBLIC WI-FI PROGRAM

Vice President Sara Duterte, concurrent Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd), stumbles on a question about the Public Wi-Fi Program during the House Committee on Appropriations briefing on the proposed FY 2024 budget of DepEd.

House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Paul Daza (Northern Samar, 1st District) asked Duterte if she was aware of the program. Duterte replied that she was, but then paused and laughed. She then told DepEd Usec. Michael Poa, who was seen whispering something to her, "time out".

Duterte then asked DepEd Usec. Emmanuel Mempin to answer the question. The Public Wi-Fi Program was principally authored by former Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, who was Duterte's rival in the 2022 vice presidential election.

4Ps PROGRAM TO GET P112.8 BILLION IN 2024

A total of P112.8 billion in the proposed 2024 national budget will be allocated for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which is targeted to assist 4.4 million eligible households.

The 4Ps program was institutionalized by Republic Act (RA) No. 11310, principally authored by former Sen. Franklin Drilon, and sponsored by former Sen. Leila de Lima and former Sen. Sonny Trillanes.

‘UTANG LANG ‘YAN!’

Yan ang sabi ni Senator Bato Dela Rosa na mapag-usapan ang lumulubong utang ng Pilipinas sa isang pagdinig ng senado. Aniya, hindi dapat mabahala ang mga Pilipino sa utang ng bansa, ito ay kahit inaasahang tataas pa ito sa mga susunod na taon.

Dagdag pa ni Dela Rosa, mag-anak nang mag-anak para makatulong ang mga ito sa pagbabayad ng utang ng bansa.

Umabot na sa mahigit 14.15 trilyon ang utang ng Pilipinas ayon sa datos mula sa Bureau of the Treasury.

'ALANGAN NAMANG SABIHIN SA'YO HINDI, AUTHOR KA'

Sen. Bato dela Rosa, sponsor of Senate Bill (SB) No. 2034, said he asked his daughters and female staff and they all want to undergo the ROTC.

"Usually, gender equality, sexes discriminated upon would like equality with respect to the things and opportunities that they like. There is even no data that says women want that. There is even no data that says women want to be equal and at par with men with respect to being required to undergo ROTC. That may be the justification when you say you're including women, but have you heard from the women themselves if they indeed want that or not?" asked Sen. Chiz Escudero, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education.

"My daughters, tinanong ko sila, gusto nila [mag-ROTC]. My staff na mga babae," dela Rosa said.

"Alangan namang sabihin sa'yo hindi, author ka," Escudero answered.
