๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š ใ€ฃ Whoโ€™s Leading the Future? Gubernatorial Bets Take the Stage in Open Forum

Last April 14, 2025, four Gubernatorial Candidates shared their platforms and answered queries from students within the major universities of the province.

This youth-led forum was initiated to make an outlet for the candidates to address pressing local issues, and engage with the community most especially with the youth.

๐๐„๐–๐’ ใ€ฃ SPARK - Neg.Or. holds Gubernatorial Forum 2025

Today, April 16, 2025 at 2: 00 PM, the Gubernatorial Forum โ€™25 headed by Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK) โ€“ Neg. Or. Chapter in collaboration with student governments across universities in Dumaguete City, with the theme: โ€œPanaghi-usa Para sa Pagbago-o sa Negros Orientalโ€, commences at Negros Oriental Convention Center (NOCC).

Starting the event, an opening prayer and singing of the national anthem was conducted which was followed with the opening remarks delivered by Mr. Airon Lin Talaboc, PSG President.

Four Gubernatorial candidates were introduced: Glendol Arellano Badon; Bishop Dr Alex Larita; Henry Pryde Teves; Stephen Tuballa, which each gave their opening statement right after.

Following after, each Gubernatorial candidate answers a series of questions coming from university students across Dumaguete City. Each candidate shared their insights, platforms, and plans for the province. The media representatives were also given a chance to ask the candidates regarding relevant issues within Negros Oriental.

The event wrapped up with the closing statement from each of the candidates as well as the concluding rites.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š ใ€ฃ Top 12 Senators Emerge in SPUD Mock Senatorial Elections 2025

In a bid to promote political awareness and engagement among students, the PSG-COMELEC in collaboration with PSG-COA conducted the Mock Senatorial Elections 2025 at St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD), with a total of 275 valid votes cast across three college departments.

Topping the list is Paolo Benigno โ€œBamโ€ Aquino, who garnered 227 votes, followed closely by Francis โ€œKikoโ€ Pangilinan with 221 votes. Completing the Top 12 are individuals known for their advocacies in transparency, human rights, and public service.

Here are the official Top 12 Senators based on total votes:

Aquino, Paolo Benigno "Bam" โ€“ 227 votes

Pangilinan, Francis "Kiko" โ€“ 221 votes

Mendoza, Heidi โ€“ 156 votes

Espiritu, Renecio Jr. โ€“ 119 votes

De Guzman, Leody โ€“ 117 votes

Ramos, Danilo โ€“ 87 votes

Ong, Willie โ€“ 77 votes

Brosas, Arlene โ€“ 77 votes

Matula, Jose Sonny โ€“ 75 votes

Casiรฑo, Teddy โ€“ 70 votes

Marquez, Norman โ€“ 62 votes

Dโ€™Angelo, David โ€“ 60 votes

A total of 275 valid votes were cast from three departments:

CON (College of Nursing): 124 valid votes

CBIT (College of Business and Information Technology): 80 valid votes

CASE (College of Arts, Sciences, and Education): 71 valid votes

The mock elections serve as an opportunity for students to engage with the electoral process and reflect on the kind of leadership they value. The exercise garnered a 20% turnout from the overall college population, a step forward in fostering democratic participation on campus.

๐๐„๐–๐’ ใ€ฃ Paulinians Gather for Youth and Voter Empowerment Session

Paulinians gather at the Father Louis Chauvet Hall at 1:30 PM for a Fridays with You session centered on the theme, "Paulinians Igniting Change: Empowering Voices, Shaping Futures." The event focused on youth and voter empowerment.

The session began with a talk by Mrs. Angela Kristine Ocao, MARE, SAO Manager, who emphasized the role of the youth as critical thinkers, especially in the upcoming elections on May 12, 2025. She tackled issues such as corruption and vote buying, and ended her talk by sharing the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting's 10 Commandments for Voting.

Ms. Lea Sicat-Reyes, an alumna and school administrator at ABC Learning Center, followed with a talk on student leadership and youth empowerment. She explored the ideas of activism and encouraged the youth to take action in support of their causes.

To end the event, a mock election was held, where students cast their votes for the countryโ€™s senatorial board.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š ใ€ฃ Transforming Passion to Profession: SPUD Holds University Career Day

Today, April 8, 2025, St. Paul University Dumaguete held its University Career Day at Mere Maria Hall with the theme โ€œFrom Passion to Profession: A Paulinian Journey.โ€

Sr. Mary Maynard Paglinawan, SPC, opened the program, echoing Pope Francisโ€™ message: โ€œYou are the now of God.โ€ Ms. Jeneviev Deang followed with the event rationale, while Ms. Angela Ocao, SAO Head, oriented participants on the Safe Spaces Act, emphasizing respect and gender equality.

Interactive activities including Word Chain and Career Puzzle kept the audience engaged, helping them reflect on career choices and workplace scenarios. Ms. Jia Grace de Arce, MAEd, RGC, delivered a keynote speech inspiring graduates to embrace the next chapter of their journey.

Additional talks were given by representatives from the Social Security System (SSS), who discussed SSS member benefits, and Ms. Genisa Darias Ybaรฑez, LPT, who emphasized the value of power dressing in boosting self-confidence.

Closing the talks, Mr. Diet Lozano III shared insights on โ€œBuilding Confidence: The Key to Transition from Passion to Profession,โ€ encouraging students to believe in themselves as they enter the workforce.

The event concluded with a lively dance performance by selected senior high school students, a Q&A session and giving special awards to the notable participants.

๐๐„๐–๐’ ใ€ฃ SPUD Commemorates EDSA Revolution through Eucharistic Celebration

On February 25, 2025, St. Paul University Dumaguete commemorated the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution with a celebratory mass, presided by Fr. Aloysius Vime Ma. Moraga, MMHC.

After the mass, University President Sr. Mila Grace A. Silab, SPC, delivered a brief speech emphasizing the importance of keeping the spirit of EDSA alive. Shortly after, she announced the cancellation of the classes that follow after the eucharistic celebration.

This was followed by a concise discussion on the history of the EDSA People Power Revolution, led by Mr. Camilo Pangan Jr.

To conclude the university's celebration, all students were encouraged to join in singing "Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo" a song dedicated to honoring the legacy of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
