𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 | 𝐊𝐎𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐍: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬

He doesn’t just take photos – he tells stories through his lens. Every click captures more than just an image, it reflects passion, patience, and a sharp eye for beauty in the ordinary. That’s Vanz Koenen “Koy” Mendoza, one of the members of the editorial board of Tubas Publication and a passionate student of EMNHS.

Recently, Mendoza proved his artistry on a bigger stage as he won 1st Runner-Up in the On-the-Spot Photography Contest during the 72nd 4H National Youth Convention held at Camp Benjamin, Alfonso, Cavite.

Behind this milestone is a young man who understands that success doesn’t come overnight. With perseverance and creativity as his guiding light, Koy continues to show that passion, when nurtured, turns to greatness.

“Vanz Koenen’s triumphant participation in the On-the-Spot Photography Contest at the national level is a testament to the talent, dedication, and capability of Dumaraonun 4Hers. It proves that we can perform with excellence and stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow 4Hers from across the Philippines," said 4H Ambassador Are A. Silva, who acted as Mendoza’s guardian during this 4H convention.

Mendoza’s winning entry, titled “Radiance of Vision,” showcased a moment of solemnity – a candle-lighting ceremony wherein delegates from all over the Philippines were passing the flame from one candle to another. According to Mendoza, the photo highlights how 4-H Club embodies the essence of HARVEST: vision, education, sustainability, and technology. It shows that the club are one of the contributors of promoting innovative and future-ready agriculture for the next generation.

In an interview, Mendoza shared, “To be honest, our goal together with my mentor, Sir Are was just to show up and participate at the convention without putting any pressure on ourselves to win. I just simply took pictures of whatever I found beautiful and amazing, then posted them on my Facebook profile as entries. During the awarding ceremony, in an unexpected moment, the photo I had taken appeared on the LED screen as the 2nd placer. The moment I saw my photo with my name, my eyes lit up and my heart beats intensely, overflowing with joy and gratitude.”

He then expressed his deep appreciation for the support he received throughout the journey. “First of all, I thank God for this blessing, I know HE was guiding me since the regional camp. I also extend my deepest gratitude to the following people: to Sir Are for giving me this rare opportunity; to our school principal, Sir Johnny Pugon, for his unwavering support; to the LGU of Dumarao, headed by Municipal Mayor Atty. Matt C. Hachuela, for their invaluable assistance; and lastly, to my family for their constant support throughout this journey.” Mendoza added.

Indeed, with his camera as his companion, Koy is destined to capture not just moments but also hearts. As he continues his journey, there is no doubt he will inspire many others to see the world differently through the beauty of his photographs.

𝐄𝐌𝐍𝐇𝐒 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝟖 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 '𝟐𝟓

Jill Venice B. Garbosa – a Grade 8 student of the Special Program in Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) of Estefania Montemayor National High School (EMNHS), was elected as president of the Dumarao District’s 2025 Peer Educators Leadership Training at the 3-day Peer Educators Leadership Training through SHAPE-A (Sexually Healthy and Personally Empowered - Adolescents) that took place last September 2–4, 2025 at the Dumarao Municipal Hall.

The aforementioned event aimed to equip community members with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to take on leadership roles, support and educate peers, and to serve as role models of society.

“When I was elected as president, I felt overwhelmed and grateful because they trusted me with this position and at the same time, I was also nervous, knowing the big responsibilities that come with it,” said Garbosa acknowledging the trust and expectations placed upon her by her peers.

Along with Garbosa were 4 selected students from Grade 7 and Grade 8; Eloise Ferrer, Jacob Lexter Patingan, Kisha Hope Loquinario, and Jade Valerie Chavez. Other National High Schools also sent 5 students each for the training, including; Bungsuan NHS, Manuel F. Onato NHS, Presentacion Diez Gregorio NHS, and Ramon Benjamin NHS.

“This position teaches me to manage my time wisely and balance my responsibilities as a student and youth leader. It has also made me more confident and responsible, inspiring me to guide others while continuing to grow into a better version of myself every day," Garbosa said when asked about the significance of her position.

Throughout the training, the participants engaged in multiple activities, comprising workshops and demonstrations on various adolescent-related topics. Furthermore, they created a video presentation that aimed to highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for adolescents, paired with a poster slogan that carried the same objective.

The training was organized by Mary Grace B. Garfin, RN, Municipal Population Officer-Designate. Meanwhile, Sir Rod Patingan, Teen Center Adviser, guided Garbosa and the other participants throughout the training, serving as the teacher representative of EMNHS.

Namayagpag ang Bastonero de Estefania sa isinagawang Estefanians Got Talent, matapos magpakitang-gilas ng kanilang masining na Arnis Cultural Show bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng 36th Foundation Anniversary ng Paaralang Nasyonal ng Estefania Montemayor na may temang, "Pag-uugnay ng mga Henerasyon: 36 na Taon ng Kahusayan sa Edukasyon," nitong Setyembre 5, 2025.

Kinilala ang mga nagwagi na sina Cassandra Veann A. Venus, Christine Ann Louise H. Billones, Shinafe Hapin, Kyla Joy F. Hoñate, John Ace M. Sandoval, Wynn Carl Rome H. Nuñeza, Gino Hasigan at Jomar Tibang na bagamat nagmula sa iba’t ibang baitang ay nagawang pukawin ang interes at atensiyon ng mga hurado.

"Very happy gid nga nagdaog kami, bisan isa lang ka adlaw amon practice, nasarangan man namon i-perform mayad kag maipakita sa inyo amon nga talent sa arnis, ginhimo gid namon tanan amon makaya para nga maging proud amon nga coach. Kudos sa itaas kay wala ya gid kami ginpabay-an samtang ga-perform kami," ani Shinafe Hapin, isa sa mga miyembro ng naturang pangkat.

Samantala, nasungkit naman ni Hance Hachuela mula sa ikasiyam na baitang ang first runner-up na sinundan naman ni Eldwin Osabel bilang second runner-up mula sa ikasampung baitang kung saan ang bawat isa'y nagpakita ng angking talento at galing sa pag-awit na siyang nagpakilig sa mga manonood.

The program was divided into two parts: the first part consisted of the program proper, and the second part featured Estefanians' Got Talent, showcasing the talents of EMNHS students.

To formally start the program, Mrs. Ma. Sheryl Presaldo led an opening prayer, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and Capiz Hymn, conducted by Mr. Jonathan Vicencio and Mary Loid Apin, respectively.

Following these, Mr. Johnny P. Pugon, the School Principal IV, delivered his welcome remarks. He emphasized the journey of the school over the past 36 years and expressed gratitude to the guests who attended the program.

Next, the program featured an intermission number by the EMNHS Boyband and BINI, choreographed by Mr. Jonathan Vicencio.

After the intermission, a video presentation reminiscing the 36 years of EMNHS, prepared by TUBAS Publication and SSLG, and video messages from EMNHS alumni were shared.

Subsequently, Mr. Noel Calimpong, retired School Principal III, shared his thoughts during the messages from pioneers; he commended the institution's solidarity and dedication, which had driven the school's success over 36 years. He said, "You are now the result of 36 years of hard work."

“I would like to compare ourselves as a tree. And isa ka kahoy will be rooted, may mga branches and of course may growing leaves sa branches nya. Diin ako jan? My role is to cultivate those seeds – ang mga estudyante. Learn from me being a teacher I have always had in my heart to embrace them and encourage them to learn," said Mrs. Merlinda C. Distura, Retired Head Teacher II, using a metaphor in which she likened the school's growth to a tree as part of the messages from pioneers.

Additionally, Mr. Rowel V. Valenzuela, the Alumni President, emphasized the importance of intergenerational collaboration, noting that the school's achievements were a result of collective efforts from past and present generations.

The first part of the program concluded with a mass dance performed by the Grade 11 Avengers.

The part 2 of the event started with the reading of criteria and mechanics for Estefanians' Got Talent, conducted by Mrs. Redel V. Delfin. Following this, Mrs. Rea Faith Padasas introduced the judges and tabulators, which included Lemer Rose L. Aborde, Teacher I of Manuel F. Onato National High School; Jiremy L. Lacerdo, Teacher II of Bungsuan National High School; Ryan Catig, Master Teacher I of Dumalag Central National High School; Lourdes Dawn M. Ojacastro, HRMO, Local Unit of Dumarao, Capiz; and Noel R. Calimpong, Retired School Principal III of Estefania Montemayor National High School.

As a result of the competition, Bastonero de Estefania secured the champion title with a prize of PHP 1,500, Hance R. Hachuela achieved first runner-up with PHP 1,000, and Eldwin Osabel took home second runner-up with PHP 700. Finally, the event concluded with closing remarks delivered by Mrs. Josie G. Cruzada.
