Text: Judges 18:5–6

M — MESSAGE
SEEKING GOD OR SEEKING PERMISSION
False Guidance Leads to Stolen Worship
In Judges 18, the tribe of Dan sends spies to search for land. Along the way, they encounter Micah’s priest—the same unauthorized Levite from chapter 17. Instead of seeking God through His law, they seek convenient confirmation.
The Levite gives them a positive word without repentance, instruction, or reference to God’s command.
Later, the Danites:
Steal Micah’s idols (vv. 14–18)
Take the Levite with them
Set up idol worship in Dan
Judges 18:30 – “The people of Dan set up the carved image for themselves…”
This chapter shows a dangerous pattern:
People want assurance, not truth
They want success, not obedience
They want God’s blessing, not God’s rule
👉 When worship is built on convenience, it ends in corruption.
A — APPLICATION
Discern Between God’s Will and Easy Answers
Judges 18 challenges us with serious questions:
Do I seek God’s will—or just approval for my plans?
Do I listen to voices that tell me what I want to hear?
Am I willing to obey even when it is difficult?
📖 Jeremiah 6:14 –
“They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.”
📖 Proverbs 3:5–6 –
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Spiritual authority without truth produces spiritual disaster.
P — PRAYER
A Prayer for True Guidance
“Lord, guard my heart from seeking easy answers instead of Your truth.
Deliver me from voices that promise peace without obedience.
Teach me to wait, to listen, and to follow Your Word.
Remove every idol I have tolerated in my life.
You alone are my guide and my King.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
✨ Judges 18 ends with idolatry becoming institutionalized—what began as personal compromise became tribal corruption.
Judges 21:25 – “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
Seeking God’s direction means surrendering our direction.
