AN OPEN LETTER FOR EVERYONE WITH A KIND AND GENEROUS HEART
Dear Mr. / Mrs. / Ms. Generous
Greetings!
Do you believe that encountering this post is not an accident? Reading this open letter has a plan or purpose or maybe you're the angel God sent to me. And in somehow this can make a difference.
Allow me to introduce myself and share my story.
Hi! I am Cristian E. Dela Cruz, 22 years old, presently residing at 8254-E Fabian St., Yabut Circle, Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City under the care and custody of my aunt Digna D. Talisaysay with her family. My aunt is working in a small private establishment while her husband, Leo L. Talisaysay is a freelance graphic artist. She and her husband serve as my guardian who support all of my needs including schooling, raising me together with their two children eversince my mother passed away when I was in grade school and my father is living with his new family in our province, working by contract in different construction firm as a labor job those relay his obligation and responsibilities to my aunt where I was staying.
As a high school salutatorian graduate, I was privileged to enter college through scholarship and convinced me to take Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering at Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila. I am now on my fourth year on my course and graduating. Striving for excellence I was recognized as Top 2 Engine Cadet and Leadership Awardee last April 07, 2014. And also held some leadership position as Vice President of Supreme Student Council (SSC) and President of Department Student Council – College of Maritime Education (DSC-CME) last A.Y. 2013-2014. A student journalist, layout artist of TIP Voice, the official school and student publication.
I supposedly graduate this school year as I completed my one year on-board apprenticeship program or on-the-job training in a local general cargo vessel or LCT, unfortunately during may last week I was hospitalized at Ormoc, Leyte where our ship was docked, being diagnosed of having hematological malignancy and referred to bone marrow biopsy. They don't have the facility to cater this procedure and I was transferred to Manila. Admitted at University of Perpetual Help Medical Center and bone marrow biopsy was conducted having the result of an Acute B-Lypmhoblastic Leukemia or ALL. The doctor advised us to have an immediate Chemoteraphy procedure for immediate recovery at early stage.
But our family refuse and decided to conduct 2nd opinion for another laboratory test and medical examination. I was confined last October 17, 2016 at Philippine General Hospital after experiencing high fever, chills, vomiting and extreme abdominal pain. Laboratory tests were done, I was referred to their hematologist as I have blood complications. The doctor confirmed that I have Leukemia and advised me to undergo chemotherapy medication as soon as possible to take the chance of remission before the cancer cells spread all over and affect my body organs.
On November 11, 2016 upon my check up I was unexpectedly admitted as my white blood cells abnormally goes up. Sign that medical treatment needed to be done as soon as possible. I and my family finally decided to proceed with the chemotherapy. Taking all the risk and the chances.
On the 28th day of November 2016, I was transferred to the hospital's Cancer Institute building and my induction chemotherapy was started. It was lasted for a month and couple of days. I need to stay at the hospital even in Christmas day. My first chemo was succefully finished and I was discharged on December 30 with inserted foley catheter as I have an Acute Prostatitis due to infection.
As the new year comes, I have done my bone marrow biopsy again on January 6 to check if I am on my remission state. Unfortunately the result was relapsed. And needed to have a re-induction or Hyper cvad cycle.
Currently I am admitted again for the 1st cycle of my re-induction. It was delayed and not yet started due to another infection.
I am writing this letter to ask for your help regarding my medical treatment. We really can't afford the said medical procedures which will run for about 2 and half years, specially the costly chemo drugs. My guardian can't shoulder all the expenses, as they also experience budget shortage since their income suit for family daily needs.
Your generous assistance will be highly appreciated. And I believe that you are God's answer to my prayers. That you will serve as His instrument for my healing.
I am fighting this battle of my life, having high hopes and dreams. God has His own plan and purpose for me. It's not yet my time, I still have mission. I am always motivated and inspired to keep on going and to overcome this challenge with the help of Almighty Father and His people.
New year, new life and it’s best to begin it with compassion and generosity. I am knocking at your kind heart to assist me and my family in my medical needs.
Praying and wishing for your favorable response.
