January 17, 2025 โ€“ A three-day seminar-workshop on campus journalism concluded yesterday leaving young writers equipped with new skills to excel in the field of campus writing. The event, held from January 15-17, 2025, brought together aspiring campus journalists and valuable resource speakers from the same field to share ideas and knowledge.

The first day featured various topics led by guest speakers Kuya Mike Adrian, a former member of Mabiyaya Publication, and Ate Rose Carmel Tabotabo a former staff of the Highland. They shared insights on the foundations of campus journalism, including news writing, editorial writing, copyreading and headline writing, and the importance of ethical reporting in the field of radio broadcasting. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, learning techniques to improve their journalistic skills.

On January 16 and 17, the seminar-workshop was hosted by the Mount Carmel College publication,The Carmelite Ember under the guidance of Ma'am Lou Reiz Mae Bangis, the Editor-in-Chief. The sessions focused on advanced journalism topics, such as Science and Technology writing, sports writing, and more individual contests in journalism, they also included the ethics in becoming a photojournalism. Maโ€™am Lou together with her staff, sir Jian Dela Cruz and sir Nash De Los Santos, emphasized the role of campus journalism in fostering critical thinking and to be the voice of the students who were voiceless.

The event culminated in a showcase of participants' outputs, highlighting their improved journalistic skills in writing. Organizers, especially the advisers of both Mabiyaya and Highland publication, Ma'am Hezel Lopez and Ma'am Aralene Balalilhe, expressed gratitude to the speakers and participants for their active involvement, fostering a culture of excellence in campus journalism.

3-IN-1 EVENTS LIGHTEN UP THE DAY

The MAPARVA and Family Day was successfully celebrated at Mabini National High School on December 13, 2024. Various activities and presentations were actively performed by students from different grade levels. The event aimed to highlight the importance of students' academic efforts as well as their participation in extracurricular and co-curricular activities. The love and support from parents were also emphasized as they actively participated in the Family Day celebration held on the same day.

The event began with a lively Zumba performance by Grade 10 students from various sections, led by their MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health) teacher, Mrs. Charzel P. Flores. Flores, Ms. Mary Cathaline Jumawan, and Mr. Daniel. Family-related activities followed, including a raffle draw where sacks of rice were given to parents with the help of teachers. The Escalante City officials, led by Mayor Hon. Melecio J. Yap Jr., extended their support to the students and parents by providing meals through the city's mobile kitchen.

In the afternoon, a symposium entitled "Cybersafety Orientation for Parents" was conducted to raise awareness about the internet's influence on students. Parents were educated on the impact of the digital world and their role in guiding their children online.
