Rain Heart Giganan, a 17-year-old student of Esperanza National High School, has been playing volleyball since the 7th grade and joined the team last school year. His passion and dedication to the sport inspired him to join so he could continue learning and improving his skills.

Giganan said that volleyball helps him develop discipline, confidence, and teamwork while teaching him to stay committed to his goals. Through daily training, he also gains valuable experience and learns the importance of good sportsmanship.

According to him, being part of a volleyball team gives him the opportunity to socialize, meet new people, and build friendships throughout the journey. It also teaches him how to communicate, cooperate, and support his teammates both on and off the court.

He also mentioned that playing volleyball keeps him physically active, healthy, and fit while helping him improve his endurance. At the same time, this sport allows him to relieve stress, enjoy his time with friends, and have fun on the court.

Through his dedication and love for volleyball, he hopes to encourage others to try and enjoy the sport as well. He believes that playing volleyball can help people stay healthy, build confidence, make friends, and develop important life skills.

A single choice made too soon can quietly change a young personโ€™s future. What may seem like a small decision today can create challenges that last for years.
Many people only notice the problem when its effects become impossible to ignore. By then, dreams, education, and health may already be at risk.

This hidden issue is teenage pregnancy, which continues to affect many young Filipinos. It is not only a personal concern but also a public health and social issue.
Teenage pregnancy puts young mothers and their babies at greater risk of health complications. Their bodies are still developing, making pregnancy and childbirth more difficult than in adulthood.

Many teenage parents are also forced to stop studying to care for their children. As a result, they may struggle to find stable jobs and provide for their families in the future.

The effects go beyond one household because communities are also affected. When more young people leave school early, the countryโ€™s future workforce and development are weakened.

Mental and emotional health can also suffer because of teenage pregnancy. Many young parents experience stress, anxiety, fear, and social judgment while carrying responsibilities they are not yet prepared for.

These challenges show that teenage pregnancy should never be treated as something normal. Ignoring the problem will only allow more young lives to face the same difficult path.

However, teenage pregnancy is not impossible to prevent when people work together. Education, guidance, and support can help young people make wiser decisions.

Comprehensive and age-appropriate s*x education gives teenagers accurate information about their health and responsibilities. Instead of encouraging risky behavior, it teaches them how to make informed and responsible choices.

Parents also have an important role in protecting their children from early pregnancy. Honest conversations at home can build trust and help teenagers ask questions without fear.

Schools and communities should also create safe spaces where young people can learn and seek advice. Guidance from teachers, counselors, and health workers can help them avoid risky decisions.

The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012, or Republic Act No. 10354, supports access to reproductive health information and services. When properly implemented, this law can help teenagers understand the consequences of their actions and protect their future.

Preventing teenage pregnancy is not only the responsibility of young people. Families, schools, communities, and the government must work together to create an environment where every child can grow safely and responsibly.

The single choice mentioned at the beginning should become a lesson, not a lifetime burden. By working together to promote awareness, education, and responsible parenthood, we can protect the health and future of young people while helping achieve Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, and 5.

โ€ŽPare-pareho ang pangako: Pagbabago ang sigaw nila kapag nanalo. Anong nangyari?

Warm pillows cushion sleepy heads, morning breath mingling with the scent of linens as bodies lounge in their coziest set of PJs. It's a blissful start to any day, isn't it? Not long before memory strikes.

School.

All coziness is thrown out the window as bare feet land on cold bathroom tiles and freezing water cascades down equally unto skin, washing away the last traces of sleep.

The sky is still an angry shade of indigo when your alarm clock begins its obnoxious serenade. "Ring! Ring! Ring!" You groan as you realize it is already 4:30 am. Much too early for anyone's liking. But for student commuters everywhere, it is already time to prepare for the day. Sleepy-eyed and groggy, they scramble to get ready while the whole city is still in slumber, their hopes and dreams tucked safely inside a tightly knotted bag.

For the student commuters, the road to school is anything but short. It is a long and winding road paved with the worries of many where one gap between the cramped seats is already luxurious. Whether it's a tricycle ride or walking miles under the burning sun, student commuters have seen it all.

The fares may add up to a large amount. Sometimes, they are bled dry just to afford transportation. As they clench their books on their laps, memorizing notes while they traverse along the rough road, they feel the pressure of the weight on their shoulders. The pressure of the heat, the pressure of the noise, the pressure of the crowds, yet they do not waver, their destination remains the same.

The road may be long and the path winding but their minds are set to only one thing. Education. The money they save from fares, the time they spend on the road, and the discomfort they feel, all of these things are sacrifices they make for their education. The ultimate goal that will lead them to a bigger and brighter future.

When they finally arrive at their destination, their uniforms pristine and their faces free from dirt, they feel a sense of accomplishment. They know that the road they take to school is worth it. And that is the road to success.

The first term of this school year is just about to end, as exhaustion lingers in the air. Sleepless nights, endless deadlines, and overwhelming and increasing responsibilities have quickly become familiar companions for both students and teachers, turning what should be a fresh start into a test of endurance.

For students, the pressure builds almost immediately. Assignments overlap with reports and quizzes, inability to stay after school for long to finish small group works, and the pursuit of academic excellence or โ€œhonorsโ€ often leaves little room to rest or have a chance to just sit back and relax. Every task seems urgent, making sleep feel like a privilege rather than a necessity. Days blur into nights as pages turn, pens race across paper, and weary eyes struggle to keep up with an unforgiving pace.

Same can be said for their mentors, as teachers face a demanding reality of their own. Beyond delivering lessons, they devote countless hours to preparing educational materials, checking assessments and works, attending meetings, staying extra-long hours to clean up anything that has been left uncompleted long after classes had already end. Much of this work remains unseen, yet it reflects the same exhaustion shared by their students as the wear and tear start to build up. While their responsibilities may be different, both sides find themselves caught in a cycle where productivity is expected, leading rest to be neglected and disregarded.

Fatigue has become so common that it is almost accepted as part of school life. Pulling all-nighters to finish teaching materials or finishing dead lined assignments or groupworks, relying on caffeine for an extra energy boost during these times, and joking about burnout and exhaustion has become very common occurrences. But education should challenge minds without draining them. As the semester continues to unfold, perhaps success should be measured not only by grades, deadlines, and achievements, but also by whether students and teachers can learn, teach, and grow without sacrificing their well-being.

Is there anything better than a cup of coffee to liven up a restless soul?

Picture a cafรฉ somewhere hidden from the city center, often overlooked by the crowded streets, towering skyscrapers, and the bustling office buildings.

Sitting at the street corner, where cars and people pass by and stare but are never bothered enough to enter.

The inside of the cafรฉ is peaceful; it doesn't have blaring industrial lights, but rather candles and lamps that rest the eyes from the luminous city.

Rickety wooden tables, stained cushioned chairs, creeping plants, and not much of a catalogue of options for food; all this reminiscent of home.

Upon entering, a cloud of warm espresso aroma greets you, with a barista who wonโ€™t even look at you in the eye.

He has been doing this job for years.

Even with this, customers still enter as if the place was just what they were looking for.

A rest from the noise. A quiet place to linger. A home to heal.

Some stay for weeks, others for months, ordering. Right until the empty cup of their heart is filled.

Filled with coffee the barista brews, but wonโ€™t drink himself.

Making remedies for others whilst he suffers the same fate.

Deep inside his troubled heart, the Lord knows how much he bleeds.

Healing otherโ€™s cuts and bruises, pouring out their weary sorrows.

One cup at a time.

Cracked cups leak the love he pours in, while shattered cups are powerless to hold his warm embrace.

Hearts too broken are simply incapable of accepting the love they are given.

Who would be willing to heal a wounded heart anyway?

Inexperienced hands cannot repair chipped and fractured cups.

And yetโ€“they try.

Piece by piece, as the jagged shards of porcelain turn scarlet from the bleeding fingers that mend them.

A shattered cup after another.

Too long, for far too long.

Anxiety for breakfast, agony for lunch, and heart ache to top off the day.

Barista work is not for the faint of heart.

Memorizing orders is exhausting.

Balancing the weight of others, while burdened by his own miseries.

Hidden hypocrisy masked by a smiling face.

Some day, the barista will leave his apron, and venture into the promising city.

Heโ€™d still brew coffees, but for once in his life, heโ€™ll pour himself a cup.

Thenโ€“only then shall he taste the sweet and savoriness of love.

Relish in the warmth of a doubtless embrace.

But until then, a hard fact remains.

This is me; I am the caf

All who are weary and heavy laden, can weep and wail on my shoulder.

I am the barista.

Like the coffee I brew, I pour myself out for the lost and weary.

Helping those who are helpless, at the expense of my sanity.

After all, what else is better than a warm cup of coffee?

To rest from the open, in a cafรฉ for the broken.
