“Have you ever heard a strange ‘tik… tik… tik…’ outside your house at night? In Philippine folklore, that’s a sound you should never ignore.”

The Tiktik is one of the Philippines’ most feared mythical creatures. By day, it looks like an ordinary person. But when darkness falls, it transforms into a terrifying, winged monster with glowing eyes, long claws, and a razor-sharp tongue used to prey on sleeping victims—especially pregnant women and newborn babies.

Its most chilling trick is its call. When you hear the sound “tik… tik… tik…” nearby, you’re actually safer than you think. According to the legend, the louder the sound is, the farther away the Tiktik really is. But when the sound suddenly becomes faint—or disappears completely—it may already be right above your roof, silently watching… waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Whether it’s just folklore or something more, many Filipinos still think twice whenever they hear strange clicking sounds in the middle of the night.

The Doppelganger of Emilie Sagee (1845)

In 1845, a teacher named Emilie Sagée became famous for one of history’s strangest doppelganger cases.

Students at a girls’ school claimed they repeatedly saw a second Emilie appear beside her. Sometimes the double would mimic her movements. Other times, it would stand silently while the real Emilie was somewhere else.

On one occasion, while Emilie was working in the school garden, dozens of students reportedly saw her double sitting inside the classroom. The figure looked exactly like her but remained eerily silent.

The sightings became so common that parents grew frightened and withdrew their children from the school. To this day, no one knows what the students really saw.

Was it mass hysteria, mistaken perception, or something far stranger?

“Imagine being zipped inside a body bag after everyone believed you were dead.”

Back in 2014, a 78-year-old man named Walter Williams was declared dead at his home in Mississippi. His family was already preparing for a funeral, and his body had been taken to a funeral home.

But then something happened that sounds straight out of a horror movie.

As workers were preparing his body, they noticed movement inside the body bag. At first, they couldn’t believe it. Then it moved again.

When they opened the bag, Walter was alive.

The man who had been pronounced dead was breathing and showing signs of life.

Doctors later said his vital signs may have become so faint that they were impossible to detect, leading to the mistake.

Just think about that for a second. Your family believes you’re gone. You’re placed in a body bag. You’re on your way to a funeral home.

And then… you wake up.

No ghost. No zombie. No supernatural explanation.

Just a real-life event that happened to a man who was declared dead—and somehow came back. That’s what makes this story so unsettling.
