The Blue Renaissance has proven again its excellence in the field of school journalism by bagging several prestigious awards at the 2024 Divisional School Publication Contest in the Division of Pampanga.

The competition brought together the best school publications from across the Division of Pampanga, showcasing outstanding talent in writing, layout, and campus journalism.

Among the awards won were 3rd Place News Page, 3rd Place Opinion Page, 5th Place Feature Page, 3rd Place Sports Page, 6th Place Layout and Design, and 3rd Place Science and Technology Page, proving their versatility in the field of campus journalism.

Editor-in-Chief Charles Vasquez emphasized the importance of planning and teamwork, stating that a well-organized approach was key to their success.

"At the start of the school year, we already had a plan in mind," said Editor-in-Chief Charles Vasquez.

"We kicked things off with a brainstorming session and put an emphasis on the key issues that needed attention, ensuring these stories would reach the students."

The publication's success was not just about awards but also about the journey and growth of the student journalists.

"The team won't be productive if we're not having fun," Charles added. "Every coverage is an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and enjoy every story we uncover along the way."

Mariel Lyka Del Luna, school paper adviser, emphasized the importance of careful planning in crafting stories that resonate with the school community.

"The Blue Renaissance carefully planned the news in each section to mirror authentic stories and grab the attention of the people within and outside the school community," she said.

She highlighted that their success was rooted in teamwork, countless revisions, and constant consultations with their mentors and coaches.

With this achievement, The Blue Renaissance has not only honed their journalistic skills but also developed character, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Charles believes that campus journalism has helped him grow as a leader,
communicator, and problem-solver, preparing him for future endeavors.

"Journalism has taught me to value the truth and understand the responsibility that comes with sharing information. It made me realize that when people are informed, they can create change," he stated.

Floridablanca, Pampanga โ€“ In a heartwarming display of community spirit and inclusivity, "La Floridablanca," a local LGBTQ+ group in Floridablanca, has initiated a free haircut program called "Libreng Gupit" at the Basa Air Base National High School. This initiative, led by Vice Mayor Michael Galang and Dr. Allan Policarpio, aims to offer essential grooming services while promoting a sense of belonging and empowerment for both the LGBTQ+ community and the general public.

The "Libreng Gupit" program represents the town's dedication to inclusivity and social responsibility. Guagua National Colleges, Inc. (GNC) Green Mamba's head coach, Allan Vinuya, still sees room for improvement in their College Department volleyball boys' team following their five-set win 23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 28-26 against Basa Air Base National High School (BABNHS) Chief Arsenals in a tune-up match held on Wednesday, January 22, at the BABNHS Senior High campus covered court.

In a post-game interview, he emphasized their lack of chemistry inside the court and the unforced errors they committed, "Kulang, kase nage-expect kami more kasi lalo na college na kami,"

"Bilang coach dapat, kapag nanalo ka i-improve mo pa rin sila, hindi hanggang 'dun lang sila. Dapat padadagdagan mo pa, palalakasin mo pa,"he added.

Arsenals on the other hand whom regardless of their age difference flaunted a fierce drive against the Green Mambas. With the powerful offense of Carl Pineda and Marcus Pamintuan, they managed to seal the first set despite their consecutive errors.

However, in the next two series of the match, Green Mamba capitalized on the errors of BABNHS while their team captain, Jot Manalili chipped in vigorous side attacks, snatching the set advantage, 26-24, 26-24.

Meanwhile, Lance Paguio, Jhon Christoff Linatoc, and Melvin Morales made their presence felt, orchestrating a remarkable fightback for BABNHS with much established offense in the fourth frame to force another set. Carrying an even advantage, both team exhibited aggressiveness, intensifying the match.

Due to onslaught exhaustion, BABNHS continuesly handed out scores with their errors. Manalili then ended the nail-biting moment through a vigorous side attack, 28-26.

Floridablanca, Pampanga โ€“ To ensure a fair and informed electorate for the upcoming May 12, 2025, Local and National elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Floridablanca recently held a comprehensive voters' education program at Basa Air Base National High School. The initiative, spearheaded by COMELEC Floridablanca Chairperson Jaypee De Vera, included a hands-on demonstration of the Automated Counting Machine (ACM) and a detailed explanation of responsible voting practices and common election violations.

The purpose of the program was to equip young voters and citizens with the knowledge and understanding necessary to participate responsibly in the democratic process. Chairperson De Vera emphasized the critical role of informed citizens in upholding the integrity of the elections. The ACM demonstration allowed participants to witness firsthand the process of vote counting, demystifying the technology and fostering trust in the electoral system.

During the session, De Vera highlighted several key violations often encountered during elections. These included vote-buying, vote selling and voter intimidation, He provided clear explanations of the rules and regulations governing responsible voting, emphasizing the legal consequences of violating election laws.

Thrilling Tune-Up Games: Creating Tempo for the Next Season Ahead

With an electrifying energy and palpable tension, the teams showcased immense determination and atheleticism in the tune-up games to hone their skills and quench their thirst as their upcoming matches are just around the corner.

The Basa Air Base National High School edged out Columban College Inc. to three sets, 23-25, 25-22, 15-9. On the other hand, the Pampanga National High School strived hard to keep their team afloat against BABNHS, to three sets, 27-29, 25-15, 15-12.

Regardless of the results, this day became a valuable opportunity to each teams to help them identify the areas that need an improvement. With every intense games, their skills, offensive and defensive strategies improved. Their communication and chemistry also strengthened. As they get into shape, these calibers are now geared up to bring home podiums for their upcoming challenges.

Clash of Queens: Preparing for Victories

Girls volleyball teams of Pampanga High School (PHS) and Columban College Inc. showcased their grit and honed skills in a tune-up match against Basa Air Base National High School (BABNHS) in preparation for their upcoming games. The match was held at the BABNHS Senior High School campus covered court today, January 15.

BABNHS crashes PHS in two sets, 25-15, 29-27. However, Columban orchestrated dominance to overcome BABNHS in three sets, 21-25, 25-16, 16-14.

The excellent performance displayed by the teams is a testament to their remarkable skill and determination. This tune-up match served as an opportunity for the players to strengthen their teamwork and improve their playmaking skills, which will play a significant role in their upcoming victories.

BABNHS drives their way home, running over Palmayo ES

With a heightened tension felt in four innings, Basa Air Base National High School displayed an impressive sports prowess and grit perseverance, setting a threat to their formidable foe, Palmayo Elementary School, to a dramatic 3-1, in the Softball Women's tune-up game held at BASA Oval on the 14th day of January.

This day served as a preparation for the upcoming Pampanga Schools Division Athletic Association Meet (PASDAAM). The coaches are both optimistic to improve their team's gaps and lapses that were observed during the gameplay.
