Guagua National Colleges, Inc. (GNC) Green Mamba's head coach, Allan Vinuya, still sees room for improvement in their College Department volleyball boys' team following their five-set win 23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 28-26 against Basa Air Base National High School (BABNHS) Chief Arsenals in a tune-up match held on Wednesday, January 22, at the BABNHS Senior High campus covered court.
In a post-game interview, he emphasized their lack of chemistry inside the court and the unforced errors they committed, "Kulang, kase nage-expect kami more kasi lalo na college na kami,"
"Bilang coach dapat, kapag nanalo ka i-improve mo pa rin sila, hindi hanggang 'dun lang sila. Dapat padadagdagan mo pa, palalakasin mo pa,"he added.
Arsenals on the other hand whom regardless of their age difference flaunted a fierce drive against the Green Mambas. With the powerful offense of Carl Pineda and Marcus Pamintuan, they managed to seal the first set despite their consecutive errors.
However, in the next two series of the match, Green Mamba capitalized on the errors of BABNHS while their team captain, Jot Manalili chipped in vigorous side attacks, snatching the set advantage, 26-24, 26-24.
Meanwhile, Lance Paguio, Jhon Christoff Linatoc, and Melvin Morales made their presence felt, orchestrating a remarkable fightback for BABNHS with much established offense in the fourth frame to force another set. Carrying an even advantage, both team exhibited aggressiveness, intensifying the match.
Due to onslaught exhaustion, BABNHS continuesly handed out scores with their errors. Manalili then ended the nail-biting moment through a vigorous side attack, 28-26.
Coach Allan furtherly complimented the capability of BABNHS, pertaining to their upcoming game on Pampanga Schools Division Athletic Association Meet (PASDAAM), "Maganda, sa edad nilang yan buo yung team, ah buo yung loob tyaka mabait, nakikinig sa ano sa coach nila. So may laban sila,"
The first-year college student, Jot Manalili, also shared in an interview the need to practice their defense in preparation for the upcoming cluster meet and the subsequent regional meet.
