For our latest spotlight series, she opens up about navigating the newsroom, the pageant world’s impossible standards, finding herself in martial arts films, becoming a mother, and landing a role in the film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree starring alongside Andrew Garfield, , and Nicola Coughlan , a film her son will one day watch and say, “That’s my mom.”

Fela Kuti has made history as the first African solo artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Known as the legendary pioneer of Afrobeat, a West African music genre that fuses Nigerian and Ghanaian music with jazz, American Funk and soul.

Kuti is being honored with the 2026 Early Influence Award for his global musical and political impact. This prestigious milestone follows a banner year, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy and the success of the acclaimed podcast Fear No Man.

Fela’s revolutionary sound continues to resonate in this generation and has influenced musicians from Miles Davis to Beyoncé. His fearless spirit remains an inspiration to artists worldwide despite facing immense political persecution during his life. Today, we celebrate the “Black President” for a legacy that is as danceable as it is profoundly transformative.

For Japanese-Filipino designer Yumi Christina Sakamoto, EDYA 1929 ( ) is both an homage to her roots and a way to share her story — and it all began when she saw the potential in using kimonos and turning them into wearable art.

Every year, Japan has a surplus of discarded kimonos, which are often found in vintage stores throughout the country and sometimes in Japanese surplus shops in the Philippines. Noticing this, Ms. Sakamoto began to reimagine the traditional kimono by infusing it with a new spirit. Her designs honor her Japanese heritage while showcasing the skills of Filipino artisans.

Art Week in Hong Kong may have wrapped up last week, but we’re still not over it.
Magazine had the pleasure of experiencing it all through the lens of Melina Niña Arellano ( ) — founder and director of Minthe Contemporary ( ), who flew to Hong Kong just in time to catch the energy of one of Asia’s most dynamic art scenes.
And this is far from her first rodeo. With over seven years in the art industry, Melina showed us exactly how a gallerist shows up — always with intention, always in style.
From the world-renowned Art Basel Hong Kong ( ) to exclusive auction previews featuring works by celebrated Asian and European artists — including Nepal’s Lain Singh Bangdel, Qui Anxiong at and a stunning Miró collection presented by and every moment was a masterclass in art and elegance.

The trip came to a perfect close with a private gala dinner at the iconic Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, hosted by — a fitting finale to an unforgettable week.
