For Lydia Velasco, strength and femininity are inseparable. Across decades of painting, she portrayed Filipina women with commanding presence, grace, and resilience—qualities shaped by her own journey as a pioneering artist in a male-dominated field. Through her signature figures and unwavering spirit, Velasco’s work reveals a vision of womanhood that is powerful, empathetic, and deeply human.

This issue also features Indonesian artist Irfan Hendrian’s layered reflections on identity and memory, Max Balatbat’s devotional stories from the streets of Caloocan, and a look at how John Frank Sabado and Leonardo Aguinaldo bring Cordillera narratives into contemporary art, alongside other compelling stories from across the region.

Art+ Magazine Issue 102 is out now!

In Master Class, performance stops being “content” and starts feeling like a beautiful, exhausting act of self-destruction.

Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo’s Maria Callas doesn’t chase relatability, branding, or curated authenticity—she demands blood, nerves, ego, heartbreak.

Opera, after all, understood long before the algorithm did that visibility always comes with a price tag.
