What some investors are doing here in Siargao is really harmful. They are using backhoes to dig into the reefs just to make their beachfront look more appealing. This practice destroys coral ecosystems that have taken decades to grow, kills marine life, and weakens the natural protection of the shoreline against strong waves and storms. Instead of preserving the island’s natural beauty, they are exploiting it for short-term gain, putting both the environment and the local community’s livelihood at risk.
