You won’t always hear “thank you.”

Most of the time, people only notice your work when something goes wrong.

But the truth is your effort makes things easier for someone else. You’re helping in ways you may never see.

This isn’t saying you have to stay in a job that drains you or underpaid you. It’s just a reminder that even on hard days, your work still makes a difference.

You can feel tired and still be helpful. You can feel grateful and still want to leave.

Gratitude doesn’t mean settling.

You’re allowed to plan your next move and still be proud of what you do now.

Japan set a remarkable precedent in sustainability by crafting Olympic medals for the Tokyo 2020 Games entirely from recycled electronics. Over several years, the country collected millions of used mobile phones, laptops, and household appliances through nationwide donation campaigns. These discarded gadgets contained small amounts of precious metals like gold, silver, and bronze — carefully extracted, refined, and transformed into world-class medals.

This initiative wasn’t just about recycling; it was a powerful message about innovation, environmental responsibility, and unity. Citizens, schools, and businesses all contributed to the collection drive, making it a true national effort. In total, about 32 kg of gold, 3,500 kg of silver, and 2,200 kg of bronze were recovered.

By turning electronic waste into symbols of athletic excellence, Japan proved that sustainability can be celebrated on the world’s biggest stage. The Tokyo medals shine not just for their luster, but for the story of circular economy and community pride they carry.
