𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐃𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒

A strong earthquake affected several communities in Mindanao and caused impactful distress to many families. There were shortages of food, water, and other basic necessities. At this time, there is an urgent need for assistance and support.

The Parliament of Political Science Students is opening a donation drive to extend financial assistance to those in need. We are calling the Political Science community, and all those who are willing to help to share monetary donations to support people affected by the recent earthquake.

For many years, politics has been seen as a male-dominated field, but women continue to break barriers by stepping into leadership roles and shaping policies that affect communities and nations. Their participation in governance shows that leadership is defined not by gender but by the ability to serve and create positive change.

Despite progress, women in politics still face challenges such as gender stereotypes, unequal opportunities, and societal expectations that discourage their participation. However, many women have overcome these barriers and proven their capability in leadership and public service.

Leaders like Corazon Aquino, the country’s first female president who restored democracy with courage and compassion; Miriam Defensor-Santiago, whose fierce intellect and principled leadership in Congress championed justice, transparency, and good governance; Leni Robredo, who brought empathy, grassroots advocacy, and social programs to national leadership; and Geraldine Roman, the first transgender congresswoman fighting for inclusivity and LGBTQ+ rights, demonstrate that leadership is defined not by gender but by vision, integrity, and dedication to the people.

Their achievements show how women in governance give voice to marginalized communities, advocate for education, healthcare, and social protection, and inspire future generations to believe in their own capacity to lead.

For many young girls, seeing women lead is powerful. It sends a message that their voices matter and that they, too, can take part in shaping the future of their communities. When women are empowered to participate in politics, democracy becomes stronger—because it reflects the hopes, struggles, and dreams of all people, not just a few.
