In line with its intensified and sustained campaign to safeguard the environment and preserve the region’s natural resources, Police Regional Office 13 has further strengthened its operations against illegal mining activities across Caraga. From January 1, 2026 to present, these intensified enforcement efforts have resulted in the arrest of 59 individuals—including two foreign nationals—engaged in the unlawful extraction and transport of mineral resources within the region.

The series of coordinated law enforcement operations were conducted in the provinces of Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur. These focused actions underscore PRO13’s firm commitment to protecting the environment, ensuring compliance with existing mining and environmental laws, and holding accountable those who exploit the region’s natural wealth for personal gain.

Through strengthened intelligence gathering, continuous surveillance, inter-unit coordination, and reinforced checkpoint operations, police operatives successfully tracked, intercepted, and apprehended the violators. Authorities also confiscated illegally sourced minerals, mining equipment, hauling vehicles, and other related paraphernalia used in the unlawful activities.

Appropriate criminal charges have already been filed in court against the arrested individuals. PRO13 assures the public that operations against illegal mining will remain relentless and uncompromising, as the organization continues to prioritize environmental protection, rule of law, and the long-term welfare of the communities in Caraga.

In steadfast support of the modernization program of Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief of the Philippine National Police, and in alignment with the 3Ms strategic thrust—Pulis na Marangal, Maaasahan, at may Malasakit—of Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado IV, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 13, a total of 335 Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment were distributed to various police stations across Caraga from February 13 to 25, 2026.

The distributed equipment includes 77 Scanjet scanners, 77 printers, 54 webcams, 50 USB solid-state drives (SSD), and 54 biometric fingerprint scanners. These were allocated to the Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO), Agusan del Sur PPO, Surigao del Norte PPO, Surigao del Sur PPO, Dinagat Islands PPO, and Butuan City Police Office to enhance operational readiness and administrative efficiency.
