Radyo Natin Guimba on October 5, together with the World Citi Colleges (WCC) and various local agencies partner in the โTrash Runโ program to commemorate its 25th anniversary.
Local Government Unit (LGU), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), and various public and private schools including (WCC) are full force in the said fun run program. This aims to provide a platform on environmental awareness and waste management.
The activity attracted over 800 participants, including 289 World Citizens (WCC students) comprised with its different student organizations and clubs naming: Community Extension and Service Office (CESO); National Service Training Program (NSTP) officers; Reserve Officersโ Training Corps (ROTC); Supreme Student Council (SSC); combined forces of College of Business Administration Student Government (CBASG), Junior Marketing Association (JMA), Junior Marketing Executive Organization (JMEO), Future Educators Association (FEA); Dead Poets Society- English Club (DPS); MAHARLIKA (Filipino club); Association of Criminology Students Against Crime (ACSAC); and Biz-Mingle Catalyst Club (BMCC).
Participants were tasked with collecting trash along designated routes, highlighting the importance of keeping the environment clean and healthy.
CESO Coordinator and Executive Assistant (EA) to the Campus Manager, Mr. Reniel Jethrey P. Florentino articulated, "The purpose of the program goes beyond simply cleaning up the environment; it is a powerful tool for raising awareness about environmental sustainability and the impact of waste segregation on our surroundings. Youth participation in these efforts is particularly important, as it empowers young people to take responsibility for their environment, fostering a sense of ownership and stewardship."
Mr. Florentino also emphasized some of the campusโs lines, "At World Citi Colleges, we are called upon to serve and to care, and involving the youth in activities like this aligns with this mission. Engaging our students in such initiatives encourages them to be active contributors to sustainable practices, while also cultivating leadership skills and community spirit." The route of the event started from WCC โ Pangasinan-Nueva Ecija Highway, Saranay โ Municipal Plaza โ Afan Salvador Street โ Bypass Road, Bacayao โ P. Ramos, St. Sto. Cristo โPangasinan-Nueva Ecija Highway, Saranay โ and back to WCC campus.
One unforgettable moment was crossing the finish line alongside students, volunteers, and local officials. The sense of accomplishment was incredible. It wasnโt just a physical run; it was a symbolic journey toward a cleaner, greener future. Seeing the smiles, high-fives, and shared pride made it a memory Iโll always treasure. Interacting with participants from diverse backgrounds, all united by a common goal, created a memorable and enriching experience.โ
At the end of the event, Bartolome Sanggalang National High School (BSNHS) was recognized for collecting the most segregated trash. WCC, on the other hand, received two awards: the Most Residual and Recyclable Trash Collected and the Most Happy Group.
The trash run was a testament to the strong partnership between Radyo Natin Guimba, the LGU of Guimba, and the participating schools. It also showcased the commitment of the community to environmental protection and sustainable development.
