DUAL MANHOOD
Preaching by: Pr. Meshach Saldivar
We are often reminded in Scripture that man is a dual being, composed of both physical and spiritual parts. 2 Corinthians 4:16 declares, "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day." This verse beautifully captures the essence of dual manhood—our physical body, fragile and temporary, deteriorates with time, but our inward man, the spirit and soul, is continuously renewed through the grace and Spirit of God.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 further portrays this tripartite composition of man:
1. The body is formed from the dust, and to dust it shall return (Genesis 3:19). It is our physical nature—limited, mortal, and corruptible.
2. The spirit is the divine breath within us that will return to God (Ecclesiastes 12:7). It is immortal and gives us life.
3. The soul encompasses our emotions, will, and intellect—our whole inner person that will enter eternity.
Our physical nature has limitations, is mortal and corruptible. Spiritual nature is the immortal part of us that will enter eternity and face judgment or reward.
As spiritual beings, we need the Word of God to nourish us (Matthew 4:4), as also affirmed in Job 23:12 and Psalms 119:103:
"Huwag mo lang pahalagahan ang pisikal, pahalagahan mo rin ang spritual."
Psalms 119:105 reminds us:
"If we have the word of God, it will be our guide, our directions and our light. In times of our dark times, His word is our light. We will not be lost, it will be our direction and guide."
Though angels are spirit beings, they have never felt the Spirit of God like we do. But we are blessed as humans to experience God's presence.
"Ang taong walang salita ng Dios ay nasa dilim, hindi maligtas. Ang taong di nagpapahalaga sa salita ng Dios, hindi rin siya papahalagahan ng Dios. Ang biyaya at habag ng Dios ay may hangganan sa araw ng pagsusulit." We may not know what lies ahead, but through faith and the Word of God, we are assured of what is next.
Psalms 119:11 says: "Temptation comes every hour, every minute, every day. But if you are full of God's word you can face trials, temptation, and hardships through the power of God's word."
"Ang taong may hinanakit, galit at tampo, magkakasala ka talaga, pero ang taong may salita ng Dios ay aaliwin at gagabayan ng Panginoon."
When God's Word becomes part of us, our thoughts, actions, and desires align with His will and it shapes us into His likeness.
Matthew 16:26 warns us: "The world can offer many things—wealth, success, pleasures, satisfaction, even happiness—but the world can never give what God can offer to us."
In this world, all is vanity except our worship and praise to God.
"Hanggang sa kawalang hanggan, ang ating pagsamba at pagpuri sa Dios ay mananatili."
Even if you gain the whole world, it is only temporary, but your soul is permanent.
God can give blessings and also discipline us, as Hebrews 12 teaches.
This dual manhood—our physical weakness but spiritual renewal—calls us to live with an eternal perspective, to value the inward man more than the outward, and to be renewed daily through His Word and Spirit.
