Pursuant to the directive of President Ferdinand โBongbongโ R. Marcos, Jr. to run after erring motorists, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) led by Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II and under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, suspended the license of a driver of a public utility vehicle (PUV) which figured in a deadly road crash in Tacloban City on June 10.
LTO Region 8 Regional Director Ledwino Macariola said a show cause order was also issued against the driver wherein he was asked to explain why his driverโs license should not be revoked for reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The SCO stemmed from the road crash at the Airport Road in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City wherein a PUV crashed on the lamp post at the center island of the road.
The incident resulted in the death of two passengers and injury to several other passengers.
But instead of rendering assistance, the driver fled.
Macariola said the driverโs decision to flee is punishable under the Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
โIn this regard, hereby ORDERED to SHOW CAUSE in writing, within TEN (10) DAYS from your receipt of this Order, why your Driver's License should not be cancelled, or revoked, and/or why appropriate fines and penalties should not be imposed upon you, for your vicarious liability arising from the acts,โ the SCO signed by Macariola read.
โYour Driver's License is also preventively suspended for ninety (90) days from receipt of this show cause order,โ it added.
