In a bid to equip future educators with essential research skills and enhance evidence-based teaching practices, student interns from the College of Education will conduct a lecture on Classroom-Based Action Research on February 2, 2025.

The session will feature Special Science Teacher IV Dr. Leo Peter N. Dacumos of the Philippine Science High School Cordillera Administrative Region as the resource speaker.

The lecture will be held via Zoom to enable participants to engage in discussions on effective research practices in the classroom.

To contribute to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through research and extension work, the two-days Institutional Extension Conference 2024 was held starting this October 17 to 18, 2024 at the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) – Main Campus, with the theme: "From Knowledge to Action: Achieving SDGs through Research and Extension".

For them to show support towards the institution’s attainment of these global aims, the faculty from the College of Education (COED) in ESSU – Guiuan Campus, namely Dr. Cenby Eppie G. Gaytos, Dr. Eddie C. Manzano, Lorelin Dagale, Ma. Christine P. Daganio, and Joanna Len B. Padullo, presented an extension-based study entitled: “Impact Assessment of the BEED Literacy Instruction and Numeracy Enhancement Program in St. Genevieve, Barangay Tagporo, Guiuan, Eastern Samar: Evaluating Educational Outcomes and Community Benefits”. The study “evaluates the effectiveness of the Extension Activity conducted within the community, focusing on its benefits for beneficiaries and implementers, particularly in literacy instruction and numeracy enhancement”. These efforts maximize the potential of extension activities conducted by the University’s colleges and programs in promoting its research and extension thematic areas.

Seven students from ESSU Guiuan - College of Education represented the university in the UKRIDA Virtual Cultural Exchange on September 23, 2024. The exchange was part of the UKRIDA Global Mobility Program, which gathered students from across countries to discuss ideas about their culture.

Judy Ann Daga, Monica Espiritu, Eskily Mae Bertulfo, Chris Anthony Gajelan, Christian Opana, Armanda Grace Lacaba, and Nilanie Jadulan took part in discussions on various topics which include urban legends and contemporary myths, movies that celebrate cultural pride, cultural perspectives on beauty standards, and national holidays.

Their participation in the said event is a testament to ESSU Guiuan's active involvement in pushing for cultural understanding across the globe.

Look: The College of Education (COED) of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Guiuan Campus participated in the Institutional In-House Research Review on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Conference Room.

COED presented ten completed research studies and two new proposals, contributing to a total of 22 research studies and two proposals for ESSU Guiuan.

The review panel featured former University President Dr. Edmundo A. Campoto and former Vice President for Quality Assurance and External Affairs Dr. Marina S. Apilado, who evaluated the presentations to ensure they met the quality standards of the institution.

The number of presented research studies contributed to the achievement of ESSU Guiuan's research targets for this year.

Look: The Department of Education (DepEd) Eastern Samar Division and Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Guiuan College of Education have further bolstered their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on September 4, 2024, at the DepEd Division Office, Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

DepEd officials present at the event included Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Gorgonio G. Diaz, Jr., CESO V, Chief Education Program Supervisor Dr. Nicholas G. Baylan, Education Program Supervisor and Focal Person for BSED Marcosa Lavado, and Education Program Supervisor and Focal Person for BEEd, Dr. Rhea N. Coles. Representing ESSU Guiuan College of Education were the Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Eddie C. Manzano, Head of Student Teaching Prof. Lourdes B. Macawile, and Student Internship Instructors and Head of BEED Program Dr. Cenby Eppie Gaytos, Head of BTLED Program Prof. Maria Soledad P. Cabantoc, and BSED In-charge Bert Jameson D. Daria.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the deployment of student teachers from the College of Education. This will help facilitate their field study and hands-on teaching experiences in various schools under the DepEd Eastern Samar division.

The MoA signing further signifies the commitment of both institutions to enhance the quality of education and the training of pre-service teachers in the province.

This partnership will allow student teachers from ESSU Guiuan to be deployed across selected schools in Eastern Samar by providing them with valuable opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world classroom settings.

Alongside the welcome activities for new and returning students, the College of Education successfully presented the University mission, vision, goals, and objectives, Monday, July 29.

Led by Aspiring Teachers Society Vice President for Audit Trishianicolle Jumapao, the initiative aimed to mainstream the University's core ethos and integrate them into students' learning experiences. Moreover, this effort endeavored to provide students with clear understanding of the University's decisive efforts to contribute to development through producing globally competitive leaders and professionals.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Region VIII, with support from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region VIII, Local Government Unit (LGU), and the College of Education of ESSU Guiuan, steers a two-day Age-Inclusive Digital Literacy and Cybersecurity Awareness Training on July 4-5, 2024, at ESSU Guiuan Computer Laboratory 2.

The event aims to capacitate senior citizens to protect themselves and their families from the increasing threat of online fraud.

DICT provided resource speakers, while the university supplied the computer set and venue for the event.
