This selfless restaurant owner prepares a dish for every stray dog that comes by his shop.

One evening five years ago, an unexpected customer dropped by Gerardo Ortiz’s restaurant, in Peru. It was a stray dog, a look of hunger in her eyes.
Ortiz could have easily turned the dog away. But he didn’t.

That evening, Ortiz offered the dog a free meal, made just for her.

And thus began an adorable tradition that continues to this day.

Nowadays, numerous stray dogs arrive to the doors of Ortiz's restaurant each night. Many are regular "customers," while others are first-timers — all hoping to fill their bellies thanks to Ortiz's kindness.

Ultimately, Ortiz's sweet routine of feeding all the stray dogs who visit does more than keep them from being hungry. It lets them know that their lives matter — a truth that Ortiz is happy to prove to them each and every day.

Hey. It’s me, your back yard dog.

I know it’s cold but I was hoping you would come check on me when you got home. I waited for you, you didn’t come. I barked because you forgot to feed me and give me fresh water, again. You yelled at me to be quiet. 😥

It’s late, The lights in the house went dark, you are probably in bed now and won’t come bring me in from the bitter cold. What did i do wrong? Why don’t you love me? I still love you....

Please if you won’t bring me inside and love me like family, will you find someone that will? Someone that would feed me every day and keep me warm and safe like i wish you would do. Because I still love you.

One more thing, if a flood comes and you can’t take me with you, please don’t leave me tied up. At least set me free, so I have a chance to run and find a safe place.

Please don’t forget about me again. I’m waiting for you....but it’s so cold and I’m lonely. 💔

Flooded and alone, a helpless dog was trapped inside a home at Pantranco Compound, Quezon City.

On July 21, the Bureau of Fire Protection – Pa*ong Tamo Sub-Station arrived just in time to save a life.

Thank you, brave rescuers, for showing up when it mattered most.

In times of disaster, don’t forget those who can’t fend for themselves.
Be the rea*on they survive.
