'An Manarabo' scribes bag awards in DSPC,
6 qualify for RSPC

MARABUT, Samar - Student-journalists of 'An Manarabo' English and Filipino Publication of Hinabangan National High School (HNHS) won awards in the 2025 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) held on January 30 to February 2, 2025.

The winning English journos for the individual contests were the following: Troy Abarquez, First Place and RSPC Qualifier in Photojournalism and Criztinzen Mabini, Second Place in News Writing.

Abarquez and Mabini were coached by Mrs. Jamie Babe V. Arcales and Mrs. Agnes C. Gacelos respectively.

Meanwhile, Trixie Mabonga, Mailley Gabon, Kate Lorraine Mabag, Ayesha Mabag, and Jammel Franz Babon emerged as champions and RSPC qualifiers in Online Publishing (English) with their coach, Mrs. Carol O. Ocenar.

For the school paper contest, HNHS clinched third in Best School Paper (Tabloid Category) and won the Best News Page award.

Additionally, Michelle Del Rio copped the Fourth Place in Pagwawasto ng Sipi at Pag-uulo ng Balita with her coach Dr. Maricres O. Irene while Quene Aban reaped the Fifth Place in Pag-aanyo ng Larawan with her coach Mr. Eugenio N. Nabual Jr.

"Our efforts and sacrifices paid off, " said Trixie Mabonga, team leader of English Online Publishing Team.

"Our success will not be possible without the guidance of our school paper advisers and support of our school head, sir Jorge Panican, " Mabonga added.

"We are also thankful to LGU Hinabangan, through the leadership of Hon. Mayor Clarito Rosal, for the transportation of the HNHS DSPC delegates to and from the venue, " Mrs. Agnes Gacelos, School Paper Adviser, quipped.

The DSPC First Place winners and their coaches are set to compete in the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) to be held on February 7-11, 2025 in Borongan City.

HNHS culminates Nat'l Reading Month fest

Hinabangan National High School (HNHS) conducted the Culminating Program of the 2024 National Reading Month Celebration on December 6, 2024 at the HNHS Activity Area led by the English Department and English Club Officers.

Nathalie Babe O. Irene, Grade 10 - San Jose learner and English Club President, formally opened the program with her words of welcome.

In her speech, Irene also underscored the importance of reading to the learners' success in school and in life.

"Books are magical portals to new worlds, teaching valuable lessons, shaping our values, and inspiring us to dream big," Irene said.

Highlighting the event was the Cosplay of Book Characters Contest facilitated by Mr. Eric B. Curiosa, SST III and participated in by Junior and High School learners.

Mr. Cesario A. Uy Jr., MT I; Mr. Rhomel G. Mabini, SST I; and Mr. Eugenio Nabual Jr., SST III comprised the panel of judges in the said contest while Mrs. Agnes C. Gacelos, MT I, contest chairperson, tabulated the scores of the contestants.

While waiting for the results of the contest, Ms. Abegail Castillo, SHST II gave English trivia questions for the learners to answer. Learners who gave correct answers were rewarded with cash prizes.

Winners in the Cosplay of Book Characters Contest as well as in Spelling Bee, Declamation, and Story Retelling Contests which were held in November, were awarded with certificates and cash prizes.

Mrs. Brenda A. Gozo and Mrs. Noime C. Valenzuela, both Junior High School teachers, received cash prizes for bagging the Best in Book Character Costume award.

In her Closing Remarks, Mrs. Nanette A. Cubilla, MT I, English Reading Coordinator, and Department Head Designate, stated that the Culminating Program was originally set on November 22, 2024 but due to overlapping schedules of school activities, it was reset to December 6, 2024 by the HNHS school head, Mr. Jorge N. Panican.

Cubilla also expressed her thanks to the learners for their active participation and involvement in various activities aligned with the 2024 National Reading Month Celebration.

"Even the celebration is over, I hope you will continue reading," Cubilla told the learners.

Jann Josh Ladrillo and Princess Xyn Obor, Grade 12 learners, served as emcees in the said event.

Grade 10 studes take NCAE

A total of 188 Grade 10 learners of Hinabangan National High School (HNHS) took the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) held on August 14-15, 2024.

Seven teachers from Bagacay National High School (BNHS) served as Room Examiners at the designated testing rooms in HNHS.

The said test aims to provide guidance to individual learners for their future educational and career choices and to provide a basis for profiling learners' aptitude.

Results of NCAE are recommendatory and shall not be used for any purpose other than career guidance.

Mrs. April Marjorie C. Dacanay, SST III, school testing coordinator, facilitated the conduct of activities relative to the NCAE.
