LAPID WADES THROUGH FLOODS TO REACH STRANDED PAMPANGA FAMILIES

MORE than 3,000 residents warmly welcomed Senator Lito Lapid during his visit to the towns of Sto. Tomas, Sta. Ana, and Arayat, Pampanga, on Monday morning, August 31, as he continued his relief operations for communities affected by severe flooding.

The visit marked the third day that Lapid personally delivered relief goods to flood-stricken areas in his home province.

Despite floodwaters reaching knee to waist level in some areas, Lapid waded through the flood to personally bring hope and assistance to affected residents.

“I am grateful for the warm welcome they gave me. It means a lot to see them personally and, most importantly, to embrace them and shake their hands,” Lapid said.

The senator said he hoped the assistance would, even in a small way, help ease the hunger and hardship of families affected by flooding brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, in Central Luzon.

Last week, Lapid also distributed food packs to around 8,000 families whose homes remained submerged in floodwaters in the Pampanga towns of Minalin, Macabebe, Masantol, Candaba, Sasmuan and Guagua, as well as in Hagonoy and Calumpit, Bulacan.

Before the relief distribution in Arayat, residents of Barangay Suclayin also surprised Lapid by singing “Happy Birthday” to the senator, whom they affectionately call “Supremo.”

Barangay Chairman Elvis Calma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Lapid, saying the senator was the first national government official to personally visit their barangay and extend assistance to residents affected by the flooding.

In Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet, Lingkod Lapid team also distributed 1,000 food packs for the victims of flashflood and landslides.

LANDSLIDE SA SUBIC: 2 PATAY, 2 SUGATAN

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Dalawa ang nasawi habang dalawa ang sugatan matapos ang landslide sa Tipo High-Tech Park sa loob ng Subic Bay Freeport Zone nitong Sabado, Agosto 29, kasunod ng tuluy-tuloy na malakas na pag-ulan.
Naganap ang insidente sa Tipo Road, malapit sa Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway o SCTEX, kung saan bumigay ang bahagi ng slope matapos ma-erode ang lupa dahil sa walang tigil na pag-ulan.
Apat na biktima ang isinugod sa James L. Gordon Hospital at Baypoint Hospital. Dalawa ang idineklarang dead on arrival, habang ang dalawang iba pa ay patuloy na ginagamot at nasa maayos na kalagayan.
Kinilala ang mga nasawi na sina Peng Jiahan, isang Chinese national at sales and marketing supervisor ng Fubong Environmental Technology, at Ernesto Ramos, isang Filipino at dump truck driver.
Una nang naiulat na nawawala si Ramos bago siya natagpuan ng mga rescue team na wala nang buhay matapos ang search and rescue operation.
Ayon sa Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), patuloy ang search and rescue operations ng kanilang security team, katuwang ang mga volunteer at iba pang concerned personnel.
Samantala, sa Olongapo City, natagpuang patay ang isang 60-anyos na lalaki sa loob ng kanyang sasakyan matapos itong ma-trap sa chest-deep na baha sa bahagi ng Sta. Rita Road sa Barangay Mabayuan dakong alas-2 ng hapon, Sabado.
Batay sa paunang impormasyon, posibleng inatake sa puso ang biktima habang nakulong sa baha. Gayunman, hinihintay pa ang opisyal na resulta ng imbestigasyon upang matukoy ang eksaktong sanhi ng kanyang pagkamatay.
Nagkaroon ng malawakang pagbaha, pagguho ng lupa at paglala ng kondisyon ng ilang kalsada sa Olongapo at Subic Bay Freeport dahil sa malakas na pag-ulan.
Apektado rin ang daloy ng trapiko sa Tipo Road dahil sa landslide. Pinayuhan ang mga motorista na gumamit muna ng mga alternatibong ruta habang isinasagawa ang clearing operations.
Nagsasagawa na rin ng masusing imbestigasyon ang SBMA sa sanhi ng landslide at nakikipag-ugnayan sa mga kinauukulang ahensya.
Muling nagpaalala ang mga awtoridad sa publiko na mag-ingat, lalo na sa mga lugar na binabaha at may panganib ng pagguho ng lupa o pagbagsak ng mga slope, habang nagpapatuloy ang pag-ulan.
Patuloy namang magbibigay ng update ang mga awtoridad matapos makumpleto ang recovery at investigation operations. End
