𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐑𝐘 | The Brilliant Within Me

Many trials are coming our way,
As if we do not know what to say.
We cannot deny that we are in pain,
Sometimes we are lost again.

Sometimes the solution is already there,
Yet we cannot reach it anywhere.
Problems blaze and try to drown,
Burdens that push us further down.

But here we are, still fighting on,
Rising again though hope seems gone.
We do not give up, we stand through strife,
For trials are part of this life.

There are things destined for us to take,
That pull us higher for our dreams’ sake.
The true brilliance is not to resign,
But trust and endure this light is mine.

Though many may pull you down below,
Many opportunities will help you grow.
Even if you fall again and again,
You’ll rise once more and fight till the end.

We will unfold our visible wings,
Break free from chains and broken things.
To rise, to fight, to live, to be,
This is the brilliant within me.

Following the recent revelations about flood control projects, the country once again finds itself under a cloud of controversy, drowning in reports of “ghost” initiatives worth millions, even billions of pesos.

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto told the Senate Finance Committee that the Philippine economy has lost between 42.3 billion and 118.5 billion pesos from 2023 to the present. “Tapos makikita mo lang na hindi ito napupunta sa mga tamang proyekto at sa kapakanan ng taong bayan, ‘yung iba naging multo pa,” Recto said.

The people behind these multibillion-peso flood control deals have denied the allegations. Yet across the Philippines, some flood control projects run into tens of billions of pesos, ranking among the largest public contracts and raising questions about how the country’s resources are being used.

With such anomalies surfacing, it is hard not to ask, how much more the public will have to endure? Taxes are paid. Workers’ wages are cut. Household bills rise because of mandatory contributions. And yet too often, these hard-earned funds may have been converted into lavish lifestyles of contractors, paraded on social media as if the country’s hardship were someone else’s problem. That spectacle is infuriating.

It is not the floodwaters that threaten to drown the Filipino people. It is the greed and corruption of those in power.
The blood and sweat of citizens are sacrificed only to disappear into the drain along with these ghost projects.

In light of these issues, President Marcos ordered the creation of an independent commission to investigate the anomalies, pending the issuance of an executive order. The move signals official concern, but it also raises a familiar question. With all the noise surrounding these scandals, will justice prevail, or will this become another story that fades without consequence?

Accountability alone will not resolve the crisis. Transparency is essential if flood control projects are to be effective and designed to protect communities rather than enrich a few.

Floods may come and go, but the erosion of public trust is permanent. Every peso siphoned from a flood control project is not just a stolen sum; it is a missing d**e and a submerged home.

Filipinos deserve more than apologies and commissions. They deserve visible projects built to endure storms and withstand strong typhoons. Until the country insists on full transparency and enforces real consequences, the waters will keep rising and so will the sense of betrayal.

We speak so freely, without a thought,
Not caring for the pain we've brought.
We say what's on our mind, unchecked
Not thinking who we might affect.

At times, they smile and say, "I'm fine,"
But deep inside, they walk a line.
Their hearts are pierced by what they hear,
Each word a wound, each joke sincere.

They sit alone with thoughts so grim,
Of leaving life when hope grows dim.
To end the noise, the hurt, the strife
They’d trade it all to escape this life.

Even simple words we say
Can kill in an unthinking way.
A careless joke, a cruel remark
Can leave behind a lasting mark.

So place yourself in others’ shoes,
And think before your words abuse.
Ask yourself, "If this I say,
Would I be hurt in any way?"

Let kindness be the words we share,
For hearts are fragile, handle with care.

Sometimes the hardest battles are the ones no one else can see. If you’re carrying silent struggles, know this: your pain is valid, your voice deserves to be heard, and you never have to go through it alone.

Seeking help isn’t a weakness, it’s bravery. There are people who want to listen, to hold space for you, and to remind you that your life matters.

This Su***de Prevention Month, let’s stand together in compassion and understanding. Let’s break the stigma. Hope is contagious. When we choose to share it, we keep the light alive for others. This Su***de Prevention Month, let’s remind one another: you are seen, you are loved, you are never alone

Saint Ferdinand College officially commenced its 75th anniversary celebration on September 1, bringing together students, faculty, and staff from both the Main Campus and Cabagan Campus for a kick-off ceremony at the SFC Gymnasium.

The event was in celebration of the upcoming founding anniversary of the school, with the theme "Celebrating 75 Years of Catholic Education in the Jubilee Year of Hope."

During the ceremony, the official logo of the school was unveiled by the school administrators, which was followed by the singing of the SFC Hymn and the pinning of the school logo among employees.

Adding energy to the celebration, talented students from both campuses showcased their talents and skills on stage.
