And no, hindi ko sila kinuha all at once. ๐
My first comprehensive health plan had โฑ700,000 in coverage. At the time, iyon ang kaya ko, and I was happy that I had finally started.
Eventually, as my income improved and I understood financial planning better, I reviewed my coverage again.
And I realized something:
The answer was no.
Family history was also a factor. We have diabetes, hypertension, cancer, asthma, and other health conditions on both sides. So while I was still insurable and could afford it, I decided to add more coverage.
Because when I think about critical illness coverage, hindi lang hospital bills ang iniisip ko.
What if I couldn't work for several months?
What happens to my regular expenses?
Would I have to use my savings or investments?
Would someone in my family have to help take care of me?
Would I still have enough room to focus on getting better instead of worrying about money?
So over time, I added more coverage.
Not because everyone needs multiple insurance policies.
And definitely not because more policies automatically means a better financial plan.
I did it because my needs changed, my capacity changed, and my understanding of how much protection I wanted became clearer.
When someone asks me what insurance they should get, I usually don't start by recommending a product. I ask,
Maximum life insurance coverage? Critical illness protection? Something for a long-term goal? Guaranteed cash benefits?
I also ask what coverage they already have, whether this will be their first insurance policy, and of course, what they can comfortably sustain.
