The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) ended their three years drought after clawing through a nail-biting 72-64 win over College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), placing third in the MSU-IIT Palakasan 2026 Menโs Basketball tournament Tuesday, April 14, at the University Gymnasium.
It took four grueling quarters before the Lynxes escaped the Arachnidsโ web-like defense, with fourth-year BS-Mathematics student Neeron Gerald Alum raining down three consecutive three-pointers that led to a 15-0 run, ultimately securing their first podium finish in three years.
The veteran shooting guard ignited to the teamโs sight by firing shots beyond the arc after subbing in during the fourth quarter, which shook the oppositionโs defense into a tangled situation and allowed Abdul Mohjeb Balt, captain of the Menโs Lynxes, to exploit the openings.
The first three quarters proved taxing for CSM Lynxes with CASS locking down their defense to a maximum, placing them in a difficult position offensively. However, momentum shifted with Joseph Abitago, determined for redemption, aided to close the gap with 53-56 at the end of the third quarter.
Alum, hailed as MVP, powered CSM with 22 points, while Balt and Abitago added 14 points apiece, with Chrizzan Abello defending the paint with eight rebounds and Mohammad Basher with four steals, securing a medal for the Lynxes.
As the season ended with success for the Menโs Basketball, a new hunger emerged for the Lynxes in which they will come back stronger and hungrier than ever for next yearโs Palakasan.
