Coinciding with the nearing end of the first semester, the Iloilo Doctors’ College - Basic Education Department (IDC-BED), led by BED Principal Philip Louise Tolentino, formally inducted its elected Supreme Student Government (SSG) and School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) officers in a joint ceremony held at MO2 Westown Hotel, Iloilo City, October 23.

Having served the student body for almost half of the academic year, SSG President Fritz Bryele Souribio shared their upcoming environmental initiative set to be implemented on campus.

“We've been planning to have garbage cans na big made of steel matting so that dako ang space nga ma occupy and indi dasig ma puno. So far, on-going man ang pag finalize namon sang signage namon nga inug butang sa different area sang school,” said Souribio.

While open to future collaborations with the SPTA, Souribio shared that the association—headed by Marebeth Gemarino, SPTA President—currently has its own proposed project under consideration.

“They [SPTA officers] are planning to add chairs with tables near the gym para mas damo students nga maka-gamit. Supposedly sliding windows for elementary, but with the constant shaking, nag-decide ang body to use the budget sa more alternative and safer nga project,” Souribio added.

The event concluded with a shared dinner and socialization between the student and parent leaders, fostering camaraderie and cooperation for future endeavors.

‎Sa pamamagitan ng paglikha ng maiikling pelikula batay sa temang “Sa Mata ng Publiko: Sulyap Mundo,” ipinamalas ng Grade 12 students ng Iloilo Doctors’ College – Basic Education Department (IDC-BED) ang kanilang talento sa pagpapahiwatig ng mga isyu sa lipunan sa Dayaw Film Festival 2025, Oktubre 23.

‎Sa kabila ng pagtutok sa mga paksang may kinalaman sa kultura at tradisyon sa mga nakalipas na taon, ang IDC-BED ay nagtuon ngayong taon sa mga isyung panlipunan kung saan ipinagmalaki ng 13 seksyon ang pagtatanghal ng kanilang sariling mga pelikula.

‎"Paagi sang amon film, mas maka-learn ang mga students here sa IDC in a way nga hindi siya heavy because it's a film,” saad ni Arken Cerrudo, direktor ng "Lael".
‎
‎Bago ipinalabas ang mga maikling pelikula, unang pumarada ang iba’t ibang seksyon suot ang mga kasuotan at kani-kanilang mga pakulo na umaayon sa tema ng kanilang likha.
‎
‎"Kanami lantawon, kanami sa feeling kay biskan grade 12 palang sila or mga estudyante kabalo na sila manilag kung ano ang mga problem diri sa palibot naton,” sabi ni Kristel Devine Ramirez, g**o ng IDC-BED.

‎Exposing young learners to various cultures, the preschool and elementary pupils of Iloilo Doctors’ College – Basic Education Department (IDC-BED) celebrated the United Nations month through a series of activities, October 24.
‎
‎Hailed as champions in the "Geographical Wizards" category, Group 5— consisting of Heaven Justice Dimalanta, Ma. Jella Reanne Magrare and Kristine Annika Rendon scored on top of the elementary Quiz Bee Competition under the guidance of Teacher Elizabel Alimarin as their coach.
‎
‎“Ang benefit namon is for additional knowledge, sa amon man also, and mas sa kids namon nga ma-share man namon sila and kung ano man may ara sa books namon,” stated Alimarin.
‎
‎Under the "Flag Masters" Quiz Bee category, Aiziani Shimmer Tiron, Kailey Bernadette Unato, and Lars Gerard Barranco of Group 8 secured first place through the help of their coach, Teacher Zyra Gail Jerecia.
‎
‎The program also featured a parade of costumes from different cultural backgrounds, highlighting inclusion in diversity.

𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘄 '𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲' 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗣𝗩 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁

Producing its off-campus debut, the short film ‘Panagna sa Lana’—the IDC-BED Dayaw 2025 winner—was one of the chosen entries to be showcased at the 2025 CineMatahum Film Festival, October 26.

The microfilm, directed by Johanness Michaelli Paranga, was nominated for the following awards: Best Film, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best in Sound Design in the CineBarrio Interschool Division Category.

“It feels amazing to have ‘Panagna sa Lana’ shown to a wider audience, given that the sole purpose of this film is to spread awareness and promote our culture,” expressed Paranga.

Screening the tradition and culture of the Babaylans, the film reenacts the story of Dolor — a woman who strives for her own freedom while fulfilling her ancestral duties.

“Competitive or not, my only expectation or wish is for the people to appreciate the meaning of the film,” Paranga conveyed.

The flick ultimately failed to secure the awards against the other features of the same bracket.

Annually, the University of the Philippines - Visayas spearheads the CineMatahum as part of celebrating artistry in Western Visayas.

Featuring the piece “If You Want to Know What We Are,” the Iloilo Doctors’ College - Basic Education Department (IDC-BED) staged its annual Verse Choir Competition for Grade 11 learners as their culminating activity in Oral Communication, held at the IDC Gymnasium, October 22.

Among the fifteen competing sections, Grade 11 STEM - Perseus emerged as champion and also received the "Best in Choreography," and "Best in Interpretation" minor awards.

“Sig**o, as a conductor, kinanglan precise gid dapat ang imo naubra kag di ka magsala kay [kung] magsala ka, masala man ang imo nga mga upod,” said Dexter John Torreces, conductor of Grade 11 STEM - Perseus.

John Michael Harded, Chief Judge of the competition, commended all participants for their efforts and shared insights into the deeper meaning and discipline behind verse choir performance.

“Verse choir is one voice—isa ka tingog, isa ka hulag, kag isa ka gugma. Remember, it's a challenge—we don't aim for perfection; [rather,] we need consistency, and that is what verse choir is all about,” Harded shared.

The competition concluded with STEM 11 - Aquila as 1st Runner-up and recipient of the "Best in Costume" award; STEM 11 - Lyra as 2nd Runner-up; ABM 11 - Phoenix as 3rd Runner-up and "Best in Vocal Presentation" awardee; STEM 11 - Ophiuchus as 4th Runner-up; and STEM 11 - Draco earning the "Best in Discipline" award.

‎Harnessing their shared wit and teamwork, Iloilo Doctors’ College - Basic Education Department’s (IDC-BED) Group 11, “Sonic Sirens,” emerged as champions in the United Nations (UN) Quiz Bee Competition held at IDC-BED Room 107, October 21.
‎
With each of the 14 competing teams comprised representatives from Junior High School, Grade 11, and Grade 12, the Sonic Sirens representatives—Aquisha Anne Alagos, Kris Vincent Vijuan, and Ian Jeffrey Madrid—led all three rounds, scoring 14, 30, and 40 points, respectively.

“Okay lang [ang competition], ang preparations namon is sakto man ang tuon. Grabe gid to preparation ko sa pulaw. Ang momentum namon as a group [is] nagabuligay man lang kami, waay sing nagalamang,” shared Madrid.
‎
According to the UN Committee Chairman Mayden Palmes, organizing the event required careful scheduling since students were simultaneously preparing for other academic requirements and upcoming school activities.
‎
“Challenging and pressured because I know kung ano ka busy ang ila schedule [now]. But I know magiging successful ang tanan because our students here at IDC-BED are very responsible. So miskan ano ka hectic ang ila schedule, mapangitaan gid paagi,” said Palmes.
‎
Following closely, Group 12’s “Ophearlnicus” secured second place, while Group 10’s “Crew-chella” finished in third.

‎Corresponding to the theme "Celebrating Nations, Promoting Peace and Global Friendship," sections from Grades 11 to 12 were encouraged to create their own UN-themed bookmarks, while the junior high school department engaged in a flag-making activity.
‎
‎“I chose nga magdraw sang different races all over the world para mapakita nga united kita as one," shared Kristen Mae Niones of STEM 12 - Garnet.

‎Among the artistic initiatives, a Quiz Bee competition was also held as part of the event.
