'THOSE ARE BASELESS ALLEGATIONS'
Actress Maine Mendoza came to the defense of her husband, Quezon City First District Representative Arjo Atayde, after the latter's name was mentioned in a Senate hearing on September 8, 2025, over alleged kickbacks from flood control projects.
On X (formerly Twitter) , Mendoza called the accusations “baseless” and urged the public to refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks against Atayde and their family.
“I am with my husband in this. Wala siyang ginagawang masama sa loob. He has been doing his best to serve the people of his district in Quezon City since the beginning,” she wrote.
Her statement came shortly after Atayde issued his own denial, saying he never dealt with contractors nor used his position for personal gain.
Atayde was among the lawmakers named by contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya, who claimed during the hearing that several officials received kickbacks from projects awarded to his companies.
Mendoza said she hopes those truly responsible will be held accountable, describing the situation as “napaka unfair.”
