Get ready to cheer, Ilonggos! The film 'Cande,' a celebration of Ilonggo culture and talent, has been officially selected as one of the five full-length feature finalists for the prestigious Sinag Maynila Film Festival 2025.

​Directed by the talented Ilonggo filmmaker Kevin Piamonte, the movie is a tribute to our heritage, faith, and kinship. It follows the story of Timothy, played by award-winning actor JC Santos, who returns to Iloilo after 21 years to face the ghosts of his past. The film is set in Jaro and centers around the Feast of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, weaving in the local legend of 'Cande'—a woman said to bathe her child in front of the historic Jaro Cathedral.

​For his role, Santos even learned Hiligaynon, a testament to the film's commitment to authenticity.

​"We believe that this film will take the Ilonggo talents to newer heights, and our Ilonggo stories to be seen and loved by people around the world," Piamonte said.

​The movie is a true showcase of homegrown talent, with most of the cast hailing from Iloilo and neighboring provinces. This includes Antiqueña actress Sunshine Teodoro and Capiznon artist Pupa Dadivas. Other local stars featured are Gian Pomperada, Jan Junash Delima, Julian Paul Larroder, Lara Servando-Retazo, Rachel Santillan Aubert, Tres Arandela, and Sharon Idone.

​Piamonte is no stranger to the spotlight. He previously won Best Short Film at the 69th FAMAS Virtual Awards for his film 'Solo.'

Also included in the Sinag Maynila 2025 Full-Length Feature Category finalists are Serville Poblete’s "Altar Boy," Topel Lee’s "Jeongbu," Joel Lamangan’s "Madawag ang Landas Patungong Pag-asa," and GB Sampedro’s "Selda Tres (Cell Number 3)." Curated slate of shorts and documentaries are also among the finalists.

Timothy hopes to resolve the mysteriously tragic incident that greatly affected their friendship.
