City Tourism Offers Free Trekking

San Carlos City Tourism Office and Mayana Peak Tour Guide Association offered a free trekking activity at Mayana Peak today, Oct. 11.

At least 20 trekking enthusiasts, who were the first to register during the Sept. 10, 2025 registration, enjoyed the free guided trek and the scenic views from the cityโ€™s well-known peak.
Located in the upland barangay of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Mayana Peak is one of the cityโ€™s most visited eco-tourism destinations. It features an overlooking view and a short beginner-friendly trail that takes about 10 to 30 minutes to reach from the Mayana Peak Tourist Assistance Center.

City Tourism Operations Officer II Jennifer Saballa-Paran said the event aimed at empowering the community and allowing participants to share their experiences and captured photos of the site on various social media platformsโ€”helping attract more guests and tourists; the activity would also help the association gather feedbacks from trekkers to further improve their services.

Paran also said the tourism office regularly conducts familiarization tours in schools, this time, the activity was expanded to highlight the cityโ€™s upland destinations, particularly Mayana Peakโ€”where visitors can enjoy a breathtaking overlooking view of the city, the sea, and the island of Sipaway.

Mayana Peak Tour Guide Association treasurer Eva Ehem and auditor Marilyn Estropia said the initiative would help attract more tourists to the area, allowing them to promote the site while also providing additional income for members of the association aside from their main livelihood, farming.

Estropia also shared details about their tour packages: Package A includes a local tour guide, food consisting of native chicken with rice, native coffee, alupi, budbod, and boiled egg while Package B includes a local tour guide, and food like native coffee, alupi, and budbod. She encouraged interested tourists to contact them through their page, Mayana Peak, for more information.

The activity was part of the Tourism Month Celebration and was originally scheduled for Sept. 27 but was postponed due to Typhoon Opong.
